    LA Sal Peak mullet

After experimenting with different wheels and tires I've settled a 29" f wheel with a WTB Scraper rim and a DHS 3.0 at 10psi and a 27.5" rear with an Ibis 738 rim and a DHS 2.8 at 15psi.Chip set to the high position. I find the traction in sand and loose over hardpack amazing and love the feel of the + tires. Yesterday I rode the Oat Hill Mine trail in Calistoga, CA the top section of which is jagged, tortured bedrock mixed with loose broken rock. The bike felt great both climbing and descending. I did switch back to the 29" rear wheel with a 2.5 DHS and chip in the low position but after one ride I switched back. I just prefer the way the bike feels with the 27.5+.

I've been running my LSP mullet since late summer. Love it. 27.5 x 2.8 recon rear, 29 x 2.6 DHF up front, high setting on the flippy chip. Front rim is only 27mm id, but after many years of trying to stuff 3.0's on i35's between rocks, I've actually come to like it. The Runt and suspension tune on the Lyric helped a ton too, so I don't feel the need for the extra squishy. There are times though.....
I would advise not taking my advice.

i wonder if I ran a regular 27.5 in the rear(like 2.4) in the high setting if that would be tool low? I'm coming from a 27.5 bike and don't want a full 29er, so I think this would be great.
