Want to convert Fatboy to 1x

Hi guys, just picked up a new-to-me Fatboy (black w/gold) w/ Bluto fork for a steal as it was a lightly used demo bike. Shop included a dropper and flats as well. Currently is 2x10 with Grip Shifts (which I'm not a fan of but may learn to like) but I'm interest in converting it to a 1x.

It's mainly a campground bike and will chase my 8 year old daughter around with it.

Has anyone done this? Worth it?
Any info on how to would be great as well.

    Thanks!

It would be pretty easy to do, depending on how much you want to spend. Probably the lowest cost would be to just change out the outer 104 bcd front chainring to a 30t narrow wide from Wolftooth, One Up, or one of the other vendors. You could also change out the cassette to a 10 speed Sunrace 11-42. This would use your existing shifter, crank, and derailleur. If you wanted to go 11 speed, Id do the front chainring as above and then just get a 11 speed Shimano xt cassette (11-42 or 11-46), xt shifter, 11 speed chain, and Xt derailleur.

I have a Fatboy SE, and I did the 1x10 conversion and I like it. On the 2x crank, you can keep the small ring on and use it as a bail out gear if you need it in deep snow. Youll have to manually move the chain down, once you remove the front shifter, but it has come in handy for me occasionally. Good luck!

I wouldn't bother for this use.

You might choose to waste time and or $$ but here is a secret.
If you use it in summer kind of flat areas do not use the small ring.
I use mine on snow 4 months, around here called white fat season
and the last 3 seasons i only used the small ring, it is a great climber.
4.8 Bud/Lou with gripstuds are great but probably not suited for your use.

Just rip the FD and FS off and put a 30t narrow wide for what you want to do.

If you need more range get a 11-42. Ran this on my farley 6 for years and no issues.
