At least I have a good excuse, I'll be suffering in the freezing temperatures of Brisbane, Australia. I wonder if it will snow?

I shall be there, in the lake district as I type this.....though the moonlander is back in Newcastle.

If its south lakes, ie barrow and ulverston it's going to be fun, coastal areas here are fatbike heaven!

I've just replied to CK's notice of "FatBook",

I'm awaiting a set of wheels for my 2nd Pug and I'm trying to coax a mate to join me in a trip South of the Border. I promise that unlike my ancestors I'll not steal your cattle!!

Please, please change the date or give a couple of suggested dates in a poll.

The Sunday is the Mother in Laws 80th birthday party and I can't get out of helping/attending.

If it can't be moved I'll be up for the Friday night and Saturday riding.

Looks like it's time to get the Purple Pug out again, can't wait for that sand under my wheels

Salty you have to come , at least so i can spend some time riding my own moonie!
Surly need to send out a demostrator for the weekend

Anywhere else worth posting the meet up?, I have not bothered putting it on STW as there will be the usual negative drivel from miserable folk

Most fat friends and interested folk always find there way to here

I intend to travel up on the Friday morning, I can be there mid/early afternoon if a pre ride, fat bike festival is a possibility. Failing that I can sit and sulk, drink copious amounts of cider as know one asked me for dates :-( and wait till everyone else arrives . Shame on you John.

Although my experience of such things means you won't get everyone at the same time, best just call a date and work to it.

Having already had the weekend booked away in Scotland watching rugby just means a bit of reorganising for me (and an understanding brother).

Andy stick me down as a definite, Friday and Saturday and Sunday as no need to bail early this time. Bagsie a go on Bruce's moonlander and bagsie not cooking if the conditions are similar to the Friday night last time.

Bring it on and good call Andy for getting dates out, now which malt to bring

I think the problem was the size of tent we were cooking in last years Friday night!
I plan on getting plastered as soon as i arrive, so i don`t feel the pain on Saturdays climbs on the big Moonie

Of course having a `shot` of it means also riding it up the biggest hills

When two moonie meet there is the risk of one rather rotund pugsley rider being seen peddling off towards the sunset on your pride and joy

its been ages since i was last out in a group, been riding solo for too long.....no car and injuries to blame.

getting a car in 2 weeks, moonlanders running well, injuries getting slowly better.....a far cry from earlier this year

looking forward to more details so i can plan ahead now

strange how i live in newcastle but the south lakes is the only place my fatbike has ventured off road....and was my pugsley home.....despite being 132 miles away.

@John, so were not meeting up Friday afternoon for a spin? Looks like its me and a pile of ciders for company.

@Andy - is the campsite near a beach? To avoid being totally bladdered before anyone arrives I best make a plan to keep occupied.

Size 20 at the gathering, now I very excited.

I currently ride a 22inch Pug and as the saying goes "fatties fit fine" It fits me nicely. I have been looking at the Geomerty of the 20 inch moonlander and the 22 icnh moonlander and compare it to the 22inch pug. I have drawn the conclusion (correct me if I am wrong) that I think a 20 moonie would fit just as well. Am looking forward to trying, atleast I will know what size to aim for after the meeting. That is if I buy one!

i dont need a moonlander, I dont need a moonlander, I dont need a moonlander.....

Is this some form of cyber bullying, lol.

So in April I have two options 1) pay for family holiday to Egypt or 2) buy a moonlander and with the money I saved from not going to Egypt take the family to butlins and probably have to fund a divorce.

    I hate tough decisions.....

1, egypt has been there thousands of years and isnt going anywhere.....and youd soon crave a moonlander after spending 2 weeks in that sand with no bike anyway

2, moonlanders are still cheaper than a camel

3, telling your family your health and happiness is better than a long flight to some place where youd get the bum gravy is better

Wink About to be a new Fa tBike owner.

    Hi guys

My name is Glenn. I've just put an order in for my latest bike a Sandman Hoggar Ti.

Conrad from Sandman sent me a link to this post and upon reading I was excited to learn there were quite a few fat bike riders here in the UK, even better you are all hooking up at the end of the month. If everything goes to plan and I have my bike in time it would be a real pleasure to come along and hang out with you guys.

Will the details of the camp-site/ area you are meeting appear here on the forums?

If not could someone contact me please via pm/email to give me details.

Fingers crossed my bike should be built and have been shipped by the end of the month and this would be a great opportunity to give her a blast and meet some fellow like minded bikers.

    Cheers

Is it worth popping in a Larry tyre shot or just a large tyre tread next to the E of bike? I don't know of the difficulties of this as not a designer type but a mere banker type

Ok people here is my basic plan for Sunday 29th (happy to discuss if any other suggestions)

Sunday's low tide is at 10.54 am, so we should aim to be on Walney (isle) for approx 10am. www.walney-island.com

This will give us PLENTY of beach to play with until Lunch at approx 1.30 pm. Also WW2 Gun emplacements and a Golf Course close by for CK

I've booked for 15 people (give or take) at the Castle on Bigger Bank. It is literally a stones throw from the beach (see pix below).

The Landlady is used to bikers .Walney is the start of the Walney to Wear coast to coast ride. She also doesn't mind that we will be sandy and damp

Please see menu below. Sunday roast is either Beef, Pork or Turkey, but you can have anything on the Menu if we give them some warning, so let me know please.

After Lunch I thought we might go here (to recover) :-http://www.dockmuseum.org.uk/

It's only 5 mins drive from Walney.

The Dock Museum Reviews - Barrow-in-Furness, Lake District Attractions - TripAdvisor

After that, if we still feel the need (this is optional), we could go to Roanhead via the Black Huts at Lowsy Point for some Sunday Dune madness

FAT-BIKE.COM is not sponsering but offered to show their support for the meet,
and Gomez is sending via myself out some free goodies to hand out ... maybe you will have to earn them ideas please...

I also have (possibly) 2 other interested parties who have offered to give some free hand out gifts
All these folk want is for us to have fun on our bikes, and that any blogs, films, forum threads maybe give them a mention, which is fair enough,

No one owns any rights to sponser our event, myself included, i just want to see the gang get some free goodies
If anyone else out there wants to supply us lot with some freebies then er... we will have anything going

    Should i mail Glenmorangie?...

im all for sponsorship, our fatbikes will be posted all over the net after the meet so people will be keen to jump on the bandwagon or find out more, including exisiting owners.

and freebies are a bonus, for our hard earned....fun!

I changed the one mention of this outstanding event on fat-bike.com from sponsor to support - either way we like it when fat-bikers gather together and make with the riding and FUN! So we're sending some stuff out to show our support.

Contact us if you want to hold an event like this (in your neck of the woods) and we'll support that too!

    fun on fat-bikes encouraged,

    Suggestions for prizes please

    Here is a few;

    Furthest travelled
    most bling fattie
    most rightous beard
    best crash of weekend
    most booze consumed
winner of a slow race (seeing as haterz say their heavy and slow )

    best crash of weekend
most booze consumed - and that'll be you then...
winner of a slow race (seeing as haterz say their heavy and slow )

I'm in with a chance of the 'best crash' category unless there's a few specific prize going to the person with the greatest variation in blood glucose levels over the weekend - also 'best hypoglycaemic event'..?

Furtherest travelled, I can take a detour if it means I may win something. I don't mind spending £50 extra on fuel to win a £2.00 sticker or a t-shirt. I know this year it shouldn't take me 7 odd hours as last time :-) very generous of folks to be supporting the meet.

    So prize ideas

Person with most badly maintained bike
    Slow race : great idea
Best malt on Saturday night? This could set a nice theme for future meetings
    Longest wheelie
Someone exhibiting the most extreme fat bike geekery
Guess the tyre pressure contest, must be to two decimal places
Most over biked? Or person with the most accessories attached

looking out the window at the sleet got me thinking...

Not sure what Andy has sorted for the "camping" and know he will be fine in is bus but looking at the campsite website looks like a "pod" sleeps max 4 @ £30 a night or a "Yurt" sleeps 6-8 @ £55 a night with a log burner! could be an option ~ Assuming any available...

Anyone else enjoy the outdoors but with a room over there head?

If you want to hire a Yurt or a pod thats fine by me......Ring Arthur and book....He's really easy to deal with......I've booked 15 people...so if people want to book pods or yurts.....go ahead.....I've stayed in the Yurts before......really warm and cosy.....we don't have to pay till we leave so I will sort out the numbers based on how many are there on the day!!!! Easy.....

If it was just the trip, I'd be happy to share transport down from the Central Belt if you made your way here.....

Thanks for the offer Druidh, but main reason I can't make it is because I am recovering from a back injury & we also have friends coming up to visit......

Pfft... I thought everybody could be camping - you know, like what men do... didn't realise that glamping would be part of the equation.

Better not forget your nightdresses and facial packs, eh girls..?

are the pod / yurts / whatevers on the campsite? Otherwise we're going to be split up, which would be a pain...

    Liking the sticker Gil

Few more suggestions for prize catagories:-

    Slowest rider (me)

Most affected by Gravity (adversely) me.

Most Knackered after Andy's massive Saturday Lakes XC masochistic ride (me again).

Most likely to be totally goosed by end of w/end (that would be .....well you know)

    1. Good question. I'm actually borrowing a stove, apparently you can heat food and make brews on them.
    2. Good question
    3. I concur
    4. Me neither
    5. I am one of those folks, I am coming up Friday afternoon, to arrive at beer o'clock
    6. What are we doing drink wise?

1 - what we doing food wise? BBQ allowed on camp?
    - personally am bringing a bit of food to get me through, but if everyone brings extra stuff to share round we will end up chucking it.; I should have a stove and table for said stove. Also (if my tent extension thing works) have a big enough tent to squeeze all in if its hammering down with rain. It sould be Double the size of last year. We fitted in 8 last year ok(ish). However, if it is as windy as last year we wont get it up so I will be in a tiny two man thing.

2- what time are we setting off riding on saturday? bearing in mind i think people are arriving saturday morning and some are coming to see bikes?
    - non committal I know; but I dont mind. I assume I may have a small hangover so a nice easy start to the day would be nice. We also have to be up at the crack of dawn on Sunday so an easier start on Saturday might not be a bad Idea

3- can we book sunshine and no wind?
-I have asked Michael Fish he says we will be ok

4- cant think of anything for question 4
    - I am brining a malt to share (as well as one or two ciders) Personally, last year it was fun sharing a malt with everyone, Andy had a couple to try, be good if a few others could bring a nice drop so we can have a bit of variety of malts to sample. Could be a nice tradition to start for future meets

5- if folk are traveling from afar, should we have one roll call plus mobile numbers for contact if there is problems/late arrivals etc?

Me coming up from the midlands and my number is 07826 849 566 real name is Callum.

I'm on 07713480619 and will be in the lakes before and after the meet.

Hoping someone has a BBQ and we all just bring bangers and burgers?

Unless we all live off fig rolls and malt loaf.

Just over a week to go!!!!!
Regarding the campsite......there isn't a shop....so bring everything you need with you.
There is a pub in Satterthwaite......It does really good food and real ale. It can be difficult to get a table for food on the day.......but we could at least hide in there pool room if its raining......PLEASE STOP RAINING!!!! anyone else had enough of this wet weather yet?
My intention is to drive up on Friday lunch time...so I should be there around 4pm.....and meet everyone.. If your there before me......the campsite owner is really chilled...he won't take any money until you leave. Just find a spot with enough space for everyone and far enough away from others we won't disturb...........Put your fatbike on show and wait for the others to arrive....I'm sure we will be able to find each other!!!!! Most of you have been to one of these things before......so you know what to expect.....

    We cannot wait !!!!

If its raining I will have that tent of mine, I now also have an extension to that. In theory there will be a 6m * 6m space for chairs and dryness. (although the extension has never been out the bag)That should fit everyone in if its hammering down, failing that its down the pub or shouting at each other from each others tents.

    I should be there 4ish.

Looks like its going to be Larry's off and Nates back on as I suspect it will be a tab muddy on Saturday.

Now on to the important stuff, which whisky to order from the whisky exchange?

Hi, I rode the Fat On-One at SSUK last year, loved it and wanted one. I recently found myself with a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket, so with cunning logic decided to spend it on something I really wanted, but couldn't justify. ;o)

So I've ended up ordering a Mukluk from Charlie the Bikemonger, who when I talked to him on the phone pointed me in the direction of Bruce and the Fat bike Gathering.

So I'm hoping to come along if a) The bike turns up in time and b) I can blag my way out of working a weekend I have commited to working

Whatever happens, I won't be able to get up to the Lakes on Friday, but could do an early start on Saturday and come up then. Is the Saturday ride heading out from the campsite or is it a drive away? Any idea of a rough idea of start time? If it's a drive away I could meet up there.

Lol... a wee bit cold at night!

Be Mediterranean temps south of the border!,

We woke up to frost coated tents on Saturday past...

Imagine you lot turning up for a snow race in Alaska!

They would be saying `Bunch of Southern Fairies`

Looks like sleeping in the van could be a good option.

I might bring the gas barbecue. I need to check it has gas though.
