New question here. Surly ice cream truck - where to buy?

Are there any dealers that have the 2019 Surly Ice Cream Truck Plutonium Sparkle complete bike in stock?

Seem to be having trouble finding one.

The big q is QBP, the parent company of surly and largest bike parts distributer in the US. If you can't find a shop with one, you are sol for now. That said, frames might be available, if you want to build one up or pay a shop to build it for you; universal cycles shows availability, so that probably means qbp had those in stock.

Correct, there are no completes left at QBP, so your best bet is to start calling local dealers (https://surlybikes.com/dealers) and see if anyone has one in stock. Or go to your local dealer and request that they put it on Item Watch so they'll be notified when they become available again. Frames are available in small and XL only currently.

What did Surly only produce about 10 of these bikes for sale in the US?

Why do they insist on a straight steerer? Seems pretty limiting for those that may want a suspension fork.

Not to mention a mighty high retail price also.

You can run a suspension fork on an Ice Cream Truck. The stock rigid fork has a straight steerer, but the headtube can easily accept a tapered fork.

not talking about color... essentially, there are two generations of ICT's, most easily distinguished by straight seat tube (2015~2018) and curved seat tube (2019+).

typically, color changes every year, but i am sure the geo will stay the same for quite some time.

That is the only color they list for 2019, so yes, that is the revamped one.

Geometry shmeometry. It's color that matters. Somehow any bike with "sparkle" in the description sounds like it should come with bar end streamers and a horn. What was Surly thinking with that?

Did you follow the work of art that appeared a couple weeks ago on this board? If so, you will understand that bar end streamers are not something to be dismissive of 😁

If you haven't seen it in person, it's a pretty sweet green. The sparkle is understated, not glaring. Now that you've put it out there, Surly will probably put streamers on next years ICT!

I'm guessing that it'll be available in black at some point in time.

The 44mm headtube will accommodate either straight or tapered. The headset that came in my 2018 ICT actually had the larger lower bearing, and used a conversion crown race to make the straight fork fit. The suspension fork popped right in with a regular crown race. My KM had the smaller lower cup and so I swapped out the headset for the one that came in my ICT.

I am sure the color is fine. It's just the Surly naming inspirations that I find amusing. First Addams Family, then Newhart and now it appears they have moved on to My Little Pony.

My 2015 Ruby Red Mukluk had metal flake in the paint (sparkle) too. Nothing wrong with metallic paint. Just sayin' the "sparkle" in the color name seems better targeted to an 8 year old girl. Green paint on the ICT looks just fine.

I called surly, they made a mistake when they ordered the ICT for 2019 stated they had no idea they would sell so fast. He said corporate could air freight some or slow boat some for summer. He didn't know if they would change the color this year.

I drove over a thousand miles to pick mine up last year. They did the same thing last year. It's like Surly doesn't know when winter is. I do love my bike, though!

I hope one day they'll allow shipping of bicycles. I'd be mad at them, but every company does it, not just Surly.

Sounds like August 2019 for more ICT frames.
it's a challenge some of us are ultimately worthy of.

How midwest? Maybe some nice fellow MTBR members would pick it up and do the shipping for you.
