    Submerged IGH Alfine 8

Anyone have first hand knowledge of how these hold up when wet? Do a lot of waterfront riding & tend to veer into the water for kicks. Considering a build with IGH & this is my biggest holdup.

no better than any other hub. I have never had a hub survive a submersion without me having to somehow service it. My Alfine 8 needed a lube to get some grinding noises out of it the one time that I submerged it. If I submerge a hub it is always purely by accident.

I regard coastkid as our resident expert on submerging bikes. A search of some of his posts may be interesting.

As long as you don't submerge the Alfine 8 you'll be fine. If it goes underwater I'd open it up clean and relube it. If it's saltwater I'd do it ASAP.

Having said that I spend 1-3 months a year camped on the beach in Baja with my Pugs and the Alfine 8 has never been serviced. It's working perfectly, but I would never put it under water.
    Safe riding,
