Sorry, just imagine how a nice, purple, juicy grape tastes, or perhaps just some Welchs Concord Grape juice, and you're close.

The purple, green and blue are to match Salsa 2013 bikes. They are probably not listed on the Surly website.

    Please don't tell me that.

Besides, don't think they'd sell me two rears....

As for Ringle 3DV cages? Check, got 'em. Along with their stem, Moby post, the list goes on.

Do need to find purple hubs though, these rims deserve it.

if two of those wind up not being used....I'll snag them from ya in a heart beat.

That goes for anyone that may have gotten their hands on some extras or know who I should contact. Please let me know. These are awesome and my LBS had no idea what I was talking about

edit* this goes for the bud and lou tires also. Who's elbow do I have to bump to get a downpayment on some of this new gear ?

Just curious. You hit two different shops?

They had a 2 per order limit on them, not uncommon with new, or limited run stuff, hence my question.

Good for you though, gonna make some bikes grape-alicious!

Those tires are brand new. Everyone is still waiting for the boat to com in on them. There's a small number of them out there that the Illuminati of the industry gets to play with, but none in open channels yet.

If SUrly works it the way they normally do, a limited number will be here by late Fall, talk to your LBS about watching for them if you really have a jones, gotta move fast on that first shipment.

Second wave generally comes a few months later, and will be a big allotment, so open stock should be good by early/mid Spring.

As for the rims? Think those were a one off run, maybe they'll be back, I and a few others just got lucky and saw them on the day they arrived.

I've always wondered about the logic of a distribution scheme for a "winter" product that doesn't really become available to the general public until spring. I guess it supports the idea that these bikes are not just for winter use but still.....

I don't think there's a scheme in place--they're just getting stuff designed, qualified, tested, built, and shipped as they can. Just so happens that it arrives when it does.

But since you mention it, I've always wondered about a distribution scheme designed to sell us a whole new bike every year...

Agreed. Not just Surly though, (at least their "new bike for the year" seems to be truly different than previous offerings, and kudos for that). What gets me is the rest of the industry, "look, we made it 20 grams lighter, added 5 mm of suspension, and now it's black with red instead of red with black, you know you want it, right?"

I will point out standouts like Lenz though, quietly churning out product, and if there's an improvement, it's done with much fanfare, and certainly not on any sort of annual plan....

Small builders work on the same idea, like them too.

That's the industry in general, which adopted the Model Year marketing device from the automobile industry (among others.)

Also, not that I'm accusing you of doing so, but you can't pin this sort of thing very cleanly on Surly. Many of their bikes (the 1 x 1 and Cross Check spring immediately to mind) have changed only incrementally over the last decade, and even those changes don't necessarily happen with the calendar (or Interbike) year.

Wasn't thinking of Surly at all when I wrote that--more like Special'ed, Crack'n'Fail, Wrek, etc...
