    Six seconds.

    <div style="text-align: center;">
    A few days ago we stopped losing daylight. &nbsp;After months of bleeding time, as it were, the pendulum swung back. &nbsp;No loss that day, in fact we gained 6 seconds.</div>

    <div style="text-align: center;">
    Such is the significance of the solstice--we're now tilting back toward the light, if only incrementally.</div>

    I made it my mission that day to slow down and <i>notice</i>. &nbsp;Just that -- notice -- in hopes that in so doing I might find value in things I often take for granted. &nbsp;And, extrapolating from there, that I might notice more often.</div>

    Some of my desire to pay attention came from a certain empathy, sympathy if you will, with friends that live near to the Arctic Circle. &nbsp;They're currently working with -40* temps and a 'day' that lasts about 6 hours, not that they ever see the sun in that time. &nbsp;More of a dim twilight as seen through ice fog and ground smog. &nbsp;My life, my current situation, couldn't be much more cush by comparison. &nbsp;So it seemed even more important to pay attention.</div>

    In dog years Fang had 42ish seconds to notice, and <i>if you know him</i>, celebrate. &nbsp;Given a choice, he'd spend that chunk of every minute in/on/under snow, doing whatever came naturally.</div>

    It is easy to wowed by God's creation...a sunrise, majestic mountains, a roaring river, a bright rainbow against a darkened sky, etc.

    But the little things...a little child's smile, an infant's cry in church, the tracking of a single flake of snow out of many, the unexpected arrival from the past of a friendly face, these too, are presented to us...we are never alone.

    Thanks Mike, six seconds out of eternity can bring great comfort.

    Inspiring, true and so welcomed in that period were sharing time with family, friends and furry friends reminds us of that life that is going by so fast. Riding in the snow on a fat bike is reaaly revelating these precious moments. Thanks so much for that reflexion.

    Nice pics Mike. I'm happy we are headed back the other way and getting longer days. I do think a seasonal slow down is a good thing to give us a change in pace, but I am also happy to look forward to the longs days of summer.

    I just spent time with my buddy's dog who loves the snow so much you think he'll explode with excitement when you take him out to play.
    Safe riding,

    Fang! I'm watching Get Smart right now.... Such a small world

    Just in case you think this solstice stuff is all roses - our days are getting shorter. Thanks for reminding me. It's all good though. Thanks for some great pics

    If I may add one taken on a our solstice at about 6PM (no daylight saving time here - we are backward)
