You should check out the new Wednesday in the dark blue color. I think I might be putting my name on the list to get one of those. You can fit a bud and lou on it too if you slide the dropout all the way back. Probably similar chainstay length to an Ice Cream Truck at that point.

YES! My lady friend needs a fat bike like yesterday and I'm tired of looking for used ones. And she loves this one!

They should have at least offered it in black too.

I have no choice. I need a frameset, this is it, it will go straight to the powder coater.

I also have a couple who want custom built fat bikes. The wife is getting a Wednesday, the husband was waiting for the ICT. I KNOW he isn't gonna like this. Looks like two frames going.

Yeah, why didn't they offer a black frame only?

Nope. The front hub is 150mm. They mean the bottom bracket width.

I'm not really interested in the ICT, regardless of color.

But I'm glad I clicked on this, because I learned that Bud and Lou (and the rest of Surly's tires) are finally tubeless ready. Woot.

I get why the pink is cool but in the 80's when everyone was doing neon green and pink, I was wearing black t shirts. Still do.
I can't get how it's the ONLY color they're offering up.

am still rocking the original blue wed. i wish surly had a replaceable rear hanger, as mine bends if i look at it wrong.

aside from that, guess they are targeting hipsters and chicks with the new pink ICT.

Oh wow, considering trading in my Ti fatty for this. Not really, but kinda. Really wanted one of the pink 1x1s, but I snoozed.

I'd like to see Surly build the ICT like the Wednesday and price the ICT at $1550 as well.

Do you know what the specific difference is? I ask because I've had no issues with Bud's or Lou's weeping or not seating well, at least with the 3+ pairs I've run. Maybe I've been lucky.

Me either. Mine were set up tubeless before I even installed pedals on the bike.

You know, there are other fat bikes out there. What's so special about this one that you are willing to spend an extra couple hundred bucks? Just curious.

What other steel fat bikes are there out there that take 5" tires, are suspension corrected for a 140mm fork, have the hole for a stealth dropper, and have similar geometry?

There was that crack a couple of years ago that I got welded. It held up fine but the bike creaks when I ride it. I can stop it for a little while but it always comes back. Just time for something else.

With the loyalty you've had with 907, I woulda expected a 907 with that new bike smell to be in the 907 thread.

Yep. I'll build up a Mayor with some Snowshoe XXL's just for laughs. I also still have my black ano 190/135 907 that I love. it's set up for beach duty.
I may try getting a new derailleur hanger and end cap for the hub on the green bike and see if it stays quiet. If it does, I'll have it coated another color and give it to a friend as a gateway drug. He'll never ride it as hard as I have so it will be fine.

Iíd ride that pink ICT in a heart beat, even out here in rural North Carolina. Itíd look sick with a black camo frame bag. And Iíd take particularly good care of it to ensure that my son would get it when I die.

Itís not really a morning-after kinda color. Itíd go with shots of tequila but not the next day.

Looks like this was already mentioned, but the RSD Mayor is pretty close, although only in aluminum or titanium. Honestly, I have a steel fatbike, and with the bigger tires I can feel the additional weight over aluminum, but not a difference in ride quality..

Right now, it's all about the rear axle to me. It's a very stout system. On my 907 a thru axle goes though the hub into the derailleur hanger that is a separate part from the frame. I use a Hope hub so the end cap is a separate part. When I ride the bike, I get creaking under load. Drives me nuts. If I take everything apart and clean it and put it all back together with a little grease only on the thru axle, it remains quiet for a little while and starts up again.
I replaced the cheesy factory axle with a Robert axle and it lasts a little better.
On the Surly, the thru axle mounts up to the frame solid on both sides and the derailleur hanger is part of the frame. I have this on my Krampus and I really like it. It's rock solid.

Yeah, I really liked the dropout system on my Karate Monkey. I've heard that the dropouts tend to allow the axles to slide a bit in certain situations, so I don't mind a fixed dropout. I didn't have any issues with my Middle Child, either. I've never had any issues with rear thru-axles, but I am having issues with my fork's axle loosening up after a few rides...

I like the pink, and will be getting one as soon as they come available, but it still has me scratching my head that they would make that the only color for this run.

Anyone have any input on sizing these beasts? I'm 6' with a 34" inseam, and am 50%/50% L/XL on my bikes.

Id say that puts you on a large surly/salsa. Im 6'2" with a 34" inseam and ride large salsa/surly, but XL on Ibis, Santa Cruz, and others that run smaller.

I've been riding a new tubeless Bud (front) for the past week and really like it. Despite ~100grams heavier, larger volume and set at a lower pressure than the Ground Control it replaced, it feels to have much lower rolling resistance than the GC and no self-steer.

The new Bud set up super-simple on the rim, no soapy water required, 4oz. of Orange Seal Subzero, and it's held the original set pressure for eight days straight.

Looks like Surly missed the mark again! My lady will be riding a used 2016 Wednesday, once again because Surly can't get its act together and stock its flagship fat bike. Should have her Wednesday built up this week.

I'm still on the fence. The Bud is nowhere near as slow as the internet would have you believe. Never ridden a Lou, so I'm left wondering if I won't perceive it as slow either? I do like a paddle-style pattern out back...

Frankly, I found Bud/Lou to roll better and handle better on 100's vs. 80's.
Since I found a pair of clownshoe rims with a brand new Bud/Lou on em for a C note, I have two pair and have tried the various combinations at fatbike pressure instead of Freakin Concrete pressures i.e. 6-8 psi.

I don't know if it was an illusion on the rolling resistance side of things but when it came to handling, game changer in terms of ride feel and overall handling that wasn't like a bus.

So... I picked it up yesterday. All the guys in the bike shop think the color is awesome. At first glance I said wow, it isn't so bad. On the ride home I started thinking maybe I'll leave it alone. I stopped by my dad's house and said check out this new frame. He said wow! Who's that for? I said me. He laughed.
Since the powder coat shop is closed on Sundays, I took it home and unwrapped it. I ALMOST put it in the stand to start assembling it and said nope... It's gonna be orange.
    Pics to come.

It isn't the slightest bit sparkly. It's like Pepto Bismol on steroids.

I can't decide whether I love or hate it. But I'd certainly be sick of that color very quickly.

And NYRR496 is wrong. That is not a pink bike. It is a luridly, decidedly, obnoxiously, intensely, determinedly pink bike. Pepto Bismal on Steroids? Yep. That's it.

Maybe I will get one, afterall.

Following! I have a PPS(no sparkle!) ICT frame in the box. I like it but think I would be sick of it in short order. Orange is the color I am thinking I want to change it to!

    They call that color
    THE DONALD TRUMP
    hehehehehe j/k
(Because of his hair color, not political at all, just hair color)

But yea I get your point, a pink underlayment without sanding it off or a good scratching of the pink for a good layer of primer.

I've been too busy. I'm going to try and drop it off today. If not, I'm taking next Friday off and doing it then. Having to work all the time gets in the way of all the other stuff I have to do.

ok... I brought the frame to the powder coat shop today. Dropped it off with the secretary. I heard the guys in the back working. She said we,ll call you when it,s done.
Fifteen minutes later, the owner calls me and asks me to come back. I get there and he says the powder coat on the bike is on there to stay. I he blasts it, he would ruin the rame. He said there was a guy a couple towns over that could dip it and get it off but I didn,t want the E coat inside the tubes coming off. The orange I want to use is somewhat transparent and its gonna look strange over the pink since the pink is a very dark color.
I decided to take it back home as is and build it up, ride it and see if it wears on me. If I dont like it, I can sell it off in the future or wait til the weather warms up and strip it myself with Rock Miracle or something.

I didnt think of that. Maybe adding something that would look cool and work with the pink...
My son thinks it will look cool with enough black on it. We will see.

Instead of having a problem with Surly's color choice, look inward at yourself and why you might have a problem with the color.

In a former life I was into snowboarding but instead of wearing the tradition Sorel boots like all of my friends I rode in hard boots. One winter an opportunity to buy a really, really good pair of Koflack's, they were heavily discounted because not many people in America rode in hard boots and they were a bright Pink. (Apparently in Europe it was all the rage.) I was not going to worry about the color but as I was goofing off in the garage I remembered a can of Yellow paint I had and I decided to paint them Yellow
(not my favorite color but right up there) well I started spraying and spraying and the strangest thing happened, I ended up with awesome orange boots. Orange is my favorite color so I couldn't be happier.

Long story I know, the moral of the story, maybe the right yellow would get you near the orange you want.

I thought of that with yellow. Pink is actually light red. Sort of. And yellow and red make orange.

But I think even better would be a deep metallic blue. Or purple (almost black). Or charcoal. Or Krampus OG green. Also, Gunnar bikes has a bunch of colors listed that are one color oversprayed with another. Their archive colors are extensive. Good place for ideas.

    http://gunnarbikes.com/site/colors-and-styling/archived-colors/

    I like these:
Gold finger may look orange over the pink
    Dalia blue
    Pearl in black
    Dark blue pearl
    Mahogany
    Charcoal silver
    Grenade green
    Copper metallic

In the earlier listed years, they have a lot of colors over-layered. But usually charcoal or silver metallic for the bottom coat, not the top. But it could work.

It's my understanding that they usually power coat right over the existing coat. You can do that with powder, but not if it was painted with wet paint first.

Edit - read your post more carefully. I see you want to powder it a more translucent color.

I'm also in the "paint it black" or some other dark color club.
