    Pugsley vs Jones Diamond Frame

Greetings. New guy hear with first real post. Got back into mtn biking last year with the acquisition of a GT Peace Mutli 29er. However have wanted a fat bike from the outset. Have ridden 3 Pugsley's all in a urban setting and it's the first bike that has ever made me laugh while riding and feeling like a hooligan.
So, my question is should I order a Pugsley complete for primarily single track , desert exploring ,bike packing and possibly a little beach riding. Or would a fat fronted Jones bike serve my purposes as well. I know I am comparing apples to oranges . I have no experiance of course on a Jones diamond frame. Have talked to him on the phone ,or actaully listened while he talked . But hoping to get some other feedback.

Pugs are great bikes. I doubt you would regret buying one, but you can't go wrong buying anything from Jeff. He's a class act imo.

My ideal bike would be a mix if the two.

I was just debating the same two frames and ended up Pugsley, because of the versatility. I really wanted the Jones, but wanted to be able to run a 135 rear wheel on the front and wanted the possibility of front suspension. Jeff really is a great guy!

Wow! that is quite the choice.
I have never ridden half fat.. but from what I have gathered here.. if you are at all interested in fat... only full fat will do...

Seems odd to me that Jones would make himself a sweet fat prototype and then decide not to make any more, despite people practically begging him. Maybe he's just got too much on his plate as is. But half fat is just a tease.

I have a Jones Diamond that I adore as a trail/29" bike. I have a Pugs that is just okay as a trail bike. If you need the flotation, by all means go fat. If it is mostly trail/trekking and does not involve sand/bog/snow, I would go with the Jones.

It depends on what your application.

Buy a Puglsey complete bike and put a Salsa Enabler on the Peace 9 with matching fat front. Problem solved.

As suggested above, Jones Loop or Titec J bars on both and you've nearly got the best of both worlds.

I talked it over with him just this week. He didn't like the full fatty and felt that almost all the benefit was in the front and that the rear was not worth hauling around. FYI. Again, this is for trail use.

Love both of them for different reasons but if i could only have one of them for trail riding it'd be the Jones without question.

As per Enel in post #13.

Same response I recieved back in May/June this year. I believe that Jeff has a unique
take that would fit well for a full fat bike. It is a shame that his take is as it is. But trying
to place myself in his shoes, can't say that I can fault him, if your heart is not in it, why
    do it?

    Keep inquiring, guys, perhaps someday...

Sorry for digging this up but. I rode the Jones while I had a pug. It was on a speedgoat demo ride for a couple of hours. I just kept wanting the same Cush from the rear the front had.

I don't get why he bailed on it either. His steel fat space frame would be dominating. I guess ideology gets in the way.

quote from Jeff's Blog in 2009

'' I have plans on a production version of this and Iím working towards that now. It will probably be available in steel or titanium''

I asked for it in emails but he is not going that route and Sheila said the 2fat bike is Jeff's personal bike and he has no plans selling it(I asked if he would)

If he would make a ti fat spaceframe I would buy it immedeiately, even if it is a 23ett size

Did someone mention a Black Sheep fatbike? James sent me this pic in response to an e-mail from me inquiring about the background pic on the Black Sheep website. It's their Highlight model done up as a fatty. He quoted me a price of $3000 - 3400 + $1000 for the girder fork. I'm conspiring how to come up with the $ (and the patience for the wait if/when I do).

$1500 for a 7lbs steel frame, one size only so you can run 1/2 fat? You can get a complete Pugs in your size for that....

Because it couldn't be about performance?

Ideology cuts both ways. I think it is horses for courses. If JJ rode sand and snow all day I am sure his bike would be different.

Half fat Spaceframe for me - love it! - Looking forward to Nate hitting these shores

I too have tried to persuade Jeff to make a fatbike!
