I had a slightly hectic week, and a lot to do.
So i had to check if i didn't somehow skipped a day and that it already was the 1st.
Wich would mean that i missed 2 very important appointments and an opening of a gallery/exhibition.

Thank's satly for making me doubt myself and my sanity, you really, really had me going there !

They are common lil buggers over here, you head out early in the morning and they are still making their way back down into the valleys to get some shade where its cooler and have a sleep. There was about 10 of them when i rode through, the one that hung about was very inquisitive, i dont think she ever seen 4.8's before. I took 120 pics this morning so theres plenty more.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures from across the globe.

    Happy Fatbike Day!

    Hi, from Siberia!
    12-01-2012 at 01:30 PM
We started to celebrate from the great place of the Siberian fatbiking. It was on a fork of three bays of the Angara river near Irkutsk.

    Our little family of fatbikes...

    ...their happy owners

    A celebratory round dance

First fatbike that appeared in Siberia For more than three years it has not any changes or significant upgrades

    No snow, but plenty ice.

I hate this as a ride because it's really steep and there's no warm up, straight into steepness.

    But there's things to see

And it opened up, but the tracks were icy and tricky to ride on

but once it's opened up, it makes the climb worthwhile (1,120ft)

And then a nice crunchy ride over high moorland

    Happy Global Fatterday!

I am going to be busy all day today, so I did what any logical fatbiker would have done. Nightride! I left at 12am sharp local time for hopefully one of the first gfd rides in my timezone. Sorry, no on-trail pics but here is the gooey aftermath.

    Happy Holidays from West Michigan!

Well since we are always a day late and dollar short in NJ I gave my moo a nice soapy bath for tomorrow. What's tomorrow? Well there is a cyclecross race with a fat bike class my friends shop is putting on. I will be racing and I will have my moonie there for demo rides as I preach the fat bike life.official global fatbike day picture & aftermath thread-imageuploadedbytapatalk1354378406.556455.jpg

    Greetings from Southern Upstate NY;

A balmy 32* at ride time. Floog'n Awesome! What a grand idea this was. I can't believe
the pics you folks are posting. Just amazing. I'm not one of those warm & fuzzy touchy
feely weenie types, but I have to say I'm feeling the love here!

Thanks to my buddy Dan for bringing out his big boy camera to get better shots than I
would have fumbling around on my own. We forgot to take pics for most of the ride after
this. I decided to celebrate GFBD by heading straight UP one of the nastiest
trails I know of right off the bat. "Heartbreak Ridge." It's a dangerous gut busting quad
burner going up, and a real beating going down. Pictures often lie, so you can't really tell
that if I get it wrong here, I will be tumbling down hill for quite a ways. The intense look on
my face is no lie, and that's near 300lbs of Fat (both me and the Humvee!) churning up
    that hill!

No, my buddy is not Fat yet. Yes, hanging around with me, he is getting the burn for one
    REAL BAD!

Peace to all my Blimpy Brethren around the world!

Nine of us converged on the trails of Gambrill State Park in Frederick, Maryland for the DC-area floatilla:

Unfortunately, one hard crash took one of our fatties out, along with her friend, who had to bail

We ended the chilly day with some food and tales at one of the picnic tables. Great meeting new people and putting faces to names. Can't wait to meet again for another ride!

Fun ride with a lucky seven of us out. Could have been a double digit turnout IF some hadn't had to work, were not down with flu, or not commited to the Santa Claus Parade.

My GFBD ride consisted of buying Pizza for my LBS, enjoying chatter and then I took a short ride up the canyon. Hope everyone was able to get out on their bikes, enjoy time with friends and family!

Hello from Sunny San Diego! Gorgeous day out here. trails were perfect after a light rain last night to knock the dust down. We probably won't see snow till January.

I didn't really participate in GFBD with a ride so to speak. But I did come home with a brand new yellow PUGSLEY! Unfortunately it was already dark out by the time we rolled it out the door. But they built it for me today just so I could say I got it on GFBD and ride it around the parking lot. Also to have it ready for the big Chicagoland/Palos Fat-Bike ride tomorrow morning. So in reality, we'll all be celebrating a day late. Pics to come after tomorrows ride.

Thanks to 2bici bike shop in Willow Springs for building it on the spot for me today since they didn't have the color I wanted in a complete. These guys are awesome!

Happy Fat Bike day everyone! I'm thrilled to join the fold today of all days. Cheers

We did a little fat biking today, like we do every weekend, Lauren runs with our baby(she is a really fast runner even with the baby) and I ride the bike on the single track, we plan to get snow shoes for her for the snow..

So far no snow, not even mud after a lot of rain last night (Salt lake city)

Note: photo from a week ago, but it just look the same today

Nakedbabytoes and I headed out today for our ride. Had a great time and tons of fun. About 2 miles in, I figured I was good enough to head down the ravine, cross the creek and get back up. Made it across and started up the hill but my back tire spun out and I fell backwards into the creek. Talk about COLD, COLD water. My left arm and wrist is all swollen, scraped up and bruised now, but nothing is broken. My left leg is starting to bruise up now. Hubby came back with dry clothes and we carried on. Saw several guys on fat bikes riding through. Gorgeous day for riding!

Oh..and the bottom pic is for our GR bike friends. Golf course was great to let me use the cart and take the pic and loved the bike. I don't really hate golf..LOL.

Couple of pics from the Minnesota Edition which was kind of like the other editions, but we generally don't want to bother people or make a big deal about anything.

It's cool to see everyone's pictures! There are some large fat bike communities out there!

Only 3 of us showed up for the first Global Fat Bike Day in Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada).

The idea was to ride as part of the local "Winterval Parade", which is an annual parade to celebrate winter. The thermometers indicated -29C (-20F), so the wait before the start of the parade was a little cold. Fortunately, the parade ended in a downtown park and fires were setup to warm up everyone.

MTBR member RockyRider took the opportunity to set up a meeting with the Park Manager at our local nordic area at Mt Spokane State Park and do some fatbike PR. We let them kick the tires and see what all the madness is about. The seed has been planted.

official global fatbike day picture & aftermath thread-img_0438.jpg

It was 40F+ and the snow was wet, heavy and unrideable, try as we might. We couldn't let the photo op pass, though.

official global fatbike day picture & aftermath thread-img_0439.jpg

We headed to lower elevations and took a ride on trails there instead.

We had a blast getting together and celebrating this momentous inaugural edition of GFBD. Here's a toast to all our fat brothers and sisters, wherever you may be!

^^Sweet. Agree with 554 that next GFBD we should do a big group ride either North shore or South. I'll even come over from Joisey, and bring along whomever else I've converted by then.

Happy Fatter's Day from Central Washington! Three of us headed for Frenchman Coulee to ride some sandy trails & dunes we spotted on Google Earth in the Columbia River Gorge. My friend Tim rode my spare and our new friend and "Northwest Fatbiker" Chris rode his Moonie w/ Bud, Lou, a Rolloff and a Lefty. We didn't ride allot of miles but played in the sand for hours.

Thanks Sven! We didn't have time to really explore the area. We want to get some more NW Fatbikers together and go back there one of these days. Saw the pic of your Fatback, looking good!

Looking good gentlemen! We had a blast at Frenchman Coulee! We'd like to get the "crew" together and head back one of these days. Overnight camping is legal there where the rock climbers park up above. Cheers!

    GFD in Forillon National Park

Went to the Cape Gaspe lighthouse in beautiful Forillon National Park (Quebec, Canada). I was alone since I am the only one to own a fat bike in the region.

Canmore, Alberta; went for a ride up through Whiteman's Gap

then out along the Goat Creek Trail

Had a little bit of traction issue on the softer snow uphills with the Chariot, may need something more aggressive than the stock BFLs for towing in such conditions.

There were a bunch of Mukluks being demoed on that trail today so I wasn't the only fat biker out.

Ah! I wish I could have gone. I was going to pull my one year old in the trailer but I figured it was too cold for him if there was a lot of waiting around. I haven't ridden my bike for a week due to having a cold and it being so cold.

    Happy GFBD Everyone !

I had to work all day today, so it was a night ride for me. As it turns out, one of my riding buddies (Motorcycles) is moving to colorado tomorrow, so tonight I rode to his going away party, and hung out with a bunch of..... Fat Bikers!

Here is some pics of the urban ride over, and a couple of the late night stragglers.....

Debated on going over and hooking up with Gomez at the Kettles in southern Wisconsin (which looks like they had a good turnout), but instead a small group stayed in Cambridge and worked on some new trail we are building.

Just as we finished trail work it started to rain. We did get out for a short wet ride on some brand new singletrack.

Then we headed over to Camrock Cafe & Sport for beer, food, some live music and a warm fire.

No big epic ride, but a good day with good friends and a good time.

I've really enjoyed looking through these photos and reading your stories. It's amazing how such a simple idea can ripple around the world and unite folk with a common interest. Thank you all for contributing to what has been a great event. I'm going to organise some GFBD commemorative stickers this week. I'd like to send each and every one of you a sticker. I'll let you know when they are ready and I'll start sending some out.

    Thanks again guys and gals

Wow! I'm really impressed with all of the pictures in this thread. You all did a great job documenting your GFBD rides. I, on the other hand, forgot about the whole thing. I did get out on a short ride on the pugs though. My son and I took a trip around the block. He on his scooter and me on the Pugs. What a great thread. I'm on it next year for sure. I think I've almost got a buddy convinced he needs a fatty.

Me on my Pugs and a couple of skinny bike riding buddies went out for a good 10 miles of half-frozen single track here in Clinton, NY to celebrate GFD.

Pictures on the Pontiac Trail. I loaded up my Pugs with everything I had for the full fat-bike experience.

didn't see any postings for rides in my area, so I went for my own blast. Here's the obligatory picture of "bike leaning against ______". The rear endomorphs were struggling to hook up with the light snow cover on the trails. Still had a blast, can't get over how much fun the bike is to ride. Looking forward to riding some snowpack this winter, if we get any.

Custom Bicycle Bags from Porcelain Rocket

Scott Felter is the designer/owner of custom made 'bike packing' bags. The material he is using for mine is lighter, stronger tensile strength for a build of 4 bags I had him do for my new BG. I am awaiting my frame bag and the smaller top tube bag once he gets set up again as he is moving with his wife to Calgary from Victoria, BC. Can not say enuf about his builds!

+1 on what Elderberry said, we're buds. It was a joke. I blame it on him listening to way too much heavy metal.

Plus, he ended the day much wetter than I did.

FTMN i tried to post a comment on your blog post but after 8 goes at the anti spam thing where you type in letters and numbers each time they never accepted them even though it was clear to read i gave up

I follow a lot of blogs and a few i have had this happen. Anyway a nice post and your film i think had the biggest turn out for GFBD

    DIY Stand?

I'd love to see more about making that stand. I need just the thing!

[QUOTE=DavidJohn;9923422]Saturday morning December the 1st here in Melbourne (Oz) and just a quick check that my Fat Bastard .. (Moonlander).. DYI bike stand works.. and the black paint is dry.

Yeah it works.. Time to ride.. My plan is to get some beach riding shots with maybe a sunset.

    OK...

    Just a simple caning then?

I sure wish there was a group around here. I only know for sure of 2 other Fatbikes in this entire area of 200,000+ people, and I've only heard tell of one of them. And yet, I guess my ride group just grew by a few 100 people... just with a little space in between us!

So, I participated here in southwest Alaska with a 12 mile or so circuit from my house. I stopped to take a picture to post, and while setting the shot up with the timer feature my camera died a sudden death. Now it will not power up. Oh well, it is outdated anyway and now I have the excuse I need to buy a new one...

This picture is from a few weeks ago, but I was at the same place with the same bike and the same dog. The only real difference is a light layer of snow is on the ground now. I hope no one minds my using the used pic...

    Happy fatterday!

Had to wait till today to post. Millie Dog and I celebrated Fatterday with our usual 2 hr.dog loop on the trails of Smuggler/Hunter Creek near Aspen Co. Not much snow, but we had a lot of fun. We started ridding at about 2:30 pm with warm temps. and lots of sunshine!

my own humble contribution to Global FATbike day.

a brief ride down Glenrock in Newcastle Australia, with a short beach ride out.

I can't begin to waffle on and on about how much of a difference the Lefty makes. Many thanks must go to Mendoncyclesmith for his valuable advice and custom clamps and RLC Sport for the fork tuning and hub.

thank heavans when I got a puncture I'd:

    a) remembered to pack a spare tube

    b) chucked the HPX frame pump on the bike.

Our little day late and a dollar short Chicagoland ride on the Palos trail system. They made us take a mugshot before we took off. We may have a few other action shots floating around that will trickle in. A few flats and a broken chain splitting up the groups a bit but it was a glorious shake down run for my day old Pugs. (The only purty yellow one in this shot)

ddbros, that's at least in the running for the best pic and story on this thread. It was already good, but blood on the new bike takes it to an elite level.

wadester, those are some bad mofu pants.

What I really wanted to say though, is that this whole thing got kicked off with one simple post , here, and subsequently went fatbike viral. saltyman and Dr S and whoever else was behind the scenes cooking this thing up and then executing the plan . . . you guys rocked it!!!

It's been one helluva lotta fun riding and then swapping pics and stories. Thanks to you fine gentlemen in the UK for getting this freight train moving that we were apparently all just dying to jump aboard!

Chalk this up to the aftermath. On the day after Global Fat Bike Day I did a cyclocross race with my moonlander. We had 19 riders in the Fat bIke class and it was the hit of the day.

It's been one helluva lotta fun riding and then swapping pics and stories. Thanks to you fine gentlemen in the UK for getting this freight train moving that we were apparently all just dying to jump aboard!
thanks to you all.....needs support for these things to actually happen

Hey guys, YOU all rocked it!

An idea is just that, a seed. Every single person who took part in this goofball idea are the real superstars here. However, I'd like to give the biggest credit to the guys over at UKFat who took the ball and ran with it. Also huge thanks to Gomez and Fat-Bike.com for getting the publicity going, to all the bloggers, tweeters out there who spread the love, to the guys and gals that started the Facebook pages and organised the rides.

Thank you each and everyone of you. I'm still smiling like a fool.

    Same again next year!

Made it out on Saturday to Siouxon - two Fat's and a Skinny. Was a nice 16 mile trip but sadly not many pictures.

    To much fun riding

Global Fatbike Day - Nome AK

Missed the new thread. Posted in the old one and wondering where were all the pics from GFD? No epic ride for me, but I got out all the same. Up before the crack of noon in time catch the sunrise as solstice approaches near the Arctic Circle. The first pic was taken at Banner Ridge, just west of the site of the Nome gold strike in 1898. The other is of a 1930's era bucketline dredge that mined the consolidated claims of the Alaska Gold Co.

Some great pics here from the usual suspects and a lot of other folks. Quite a community we've got here! Great idea, Salty.

    GFBD from Atlantic Canada Eh.

Photos from Atlantic Canada, more specifically Waterside Beach near Fundy National park. Super fresh day of -12c w westerly onshore winds. Made the barefoot creek crossing a bit more vivid :-)

That would be great - but would require admitting that fatbikes are not just for snow

And probably another "evocative" name - or at least something to tell them apart, like "Sun&Sand Fatterday". Or howzabout "FatterSunDay"?

That's a very "Northern Hemisphere" attitude

    SandFatterday....SnowFatterday

    1st June...Dec 7th, 2013

Alternate names as needed by hemisphere...as long as globally they are the same dates.

Ha! Indeed! No "northern hemisphere" prejudice, really. I live in the southwestern desert of the USA, where snow is an occasional treat and sun/sand/gravel is normal fare. I was just showing my personal jealousy of the folk who do have snow.

And moreso, the only thing we've got right now is Fatterday is the first saturday of...... December. But we could celebrate Fatterday on any saturday of the year. I personally celebrate this holiday often, nearly every saturday! But perhaps that would dilute things a bit if done "officially".

So December was declared by the northern hemisphere snow folk, but enjoyed by all!
Do the southern hemisphere bloc want a June Fatterday to coincide with their snow? I will celebrate it on my landscape of sand/gravel/cactus with you!

I like that idea. Those of us who ride moonies are particularly attuned to the happenings in the heavens!
