Iron Horse Porter VS. Mongoose Dolomite - (they are not the same bike after all)-poopskooter.jpg[QUOTthE=vid1900;12844878]Could be, I've never seen aa Malus for more than a few seconds driving by.

This is my malus. I stripped it down and rebuilt it and painted it flat blue and now has 20 speeds, hydraulic brakes. also did the same BB posted here, much better then the stock one.

Those are some cool looking bikes. I want to do something like the bottom pic.
I'm looking at the Mongoose Compadre though which looks a bit similar to the porter. I don't want to go too wide on the tires though.
Anybody got any experience with the Compadre? I can get it for around $70 after cashing some points that I have with Sears. It will be my beater bike to take me on short trips around town. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Great guide by the way I'm hoping to use it on the Compadre if I buy it.

Just wanted to say thanks to vid1900 for this thread. Because of it, I purchased a Porter as my first bike in almost 20 years. I tore it down to the ground with the instructions here and got it in excellent condition and it's been a ball learning how to work on bikes and having fun with a Fat bike.

BBSHD get the 120mm. Make 1 wide spacer

and use the smaller ones to fine tune

The Porter has a 110mm BB, a 100mm BBSHD won't fit, I learned this the hard way.

Vid1900.. I own a SEARS IRON HORSE 26" Porter Fat Tire Men's Bike. Really love it! But I am looking for advice. 1.> I would LOVE to know where to order spare parts. ( Sears is no help. Is there a parts manual anywhere? ) 2.> I will eventually need to replace some break pads, chain and the cassette. Where can I order these? online? I read most of this thread and it is encouraging. Please help with "where to" info. Thank you, Kerry

Chain, brake pads and rotors are standard parts you can get anywhere.

For instance, here are 2 pair of brake pads for $5 shipped:

2 Pair of Bike Bicycle Disc Brake Pads For Shimano AVID BB7 BB5-Semi-Metallic | eBay

The "cassette" I'd replace with the Shimano MF-TZ31 "MegaRange" Freewheel. $16 shipped. I'd probably get this before the old one wears out, just for that super low gear.

SHIMANO MEGARANGE 7 SPEED MF-TZ31----14-34T MTB CRUISER BICYCLE FREEWHEEL. | eBay

There is no parts manual that I've seen, but everything is pretty easy to replace.

Just bought and subsequently tore down a 2017 Dolomite and it is identical to the specs listed for the Iron Horse earlier in this thread.

My Dolomite came with the brake pads as the Porter is using. Not all of the Dolomites are the same. Mine is Baby Blue and I have not seen anyone else with one that color.

Was yours a black dolomite with blue rims or the original color?
