Troy Szczurkowski didn't take the bridge like John & Petr, but has a trackpoint on the river as he crosses.

Point #2934 received at: 05:49:24 AM (AKST) 03/16/19 (19:15:49 since start)

And he was across as of 6:54am AKDT, Local Time. Showing 2.4 miles to the Finish!

    p.s.
Watching the Nome web cam by times through the night, it's amazing how often someone is out wandering around the finish. 2am, 3am, 4am,...

Jose Bermudez is around Cape Nome and on his way towards the Finish in Nome!

    • Kim Riggs and Missy Schwarz where into Golovin with the usual position hop from Kim's tracker. They were very quickly out and are now over halfway arcoss the ice to the delta below White Mountain. Only now it's Missy's tracker that's delaying reporting, but not for as long as Kim's has been before catching up.
    • Beat Jegerlehner is around 3/4 the way across the sea ice, over halfway from Little Mountain to Koyuk, tracking showing ~15 miles to go, but he's on the somewhat longer green route.
    • Peter Felten is almost at the short cross on sea ice to Little Mountain.
    • Steve Cannon shows in Shaktoolik with a green-tent-thing. (FAA cam is fixed there, now that three are past the visible stretch into town...)
    • Eric Johnson is moving, over 3/4 of the way from Kaltag to Tripod Flats.
    • In above freezing temperatures, both moving, Grant Maughan has passed Klaus Schweinberger on the way to Kaltag. Klaus last showing ~39 miles to go, and Grant showing ~36 miles to go.

Jill Homer is in Nome waiting for Beat Jegerlehner to arrive. I would be surprised if she didn't go down to the arch to meet Logar and Ineman. Hopefully she will post some pics here or on her blog, Jill Outside.

    • Peter Felten has just started out from Little Mountain for Koyuk, not quite on the sea ice yet.

    • Eric Johnson is newly moving out of Old Woman cabin.
    • Grant Maughan is moving towards Kaltag, showing 14.5 miles to go.
    • Klaus Schweinberger is moving, showing 22.4 miles to Kaltag.

    > Steve Cannon has left Shaktoolik village, but not on the NE path, but to the NW by the airport.

After zipping out to the airport at 8 mph with a 13 k tail wind, he reversed back into town at 1.7, 6.8 and 1.6 mph with that 25 F wind in his face, and is tracking as joined up with the NE track out to Little Mountain.

This is the right time, place and scale for his return up the street before joining the track to the NE. With few (1) outside in recent images, it is likely him.

Trackleader's main map is only showing Kim Riggs (shy of finish from 3 hours ago), Steve Cannon and Klaus Schweinberger.
Mouseover near Tripod Flats pops up the box for Grant Maughan, but not where Full shows him). Mouseover pops up the box for Eric Johson, and in the same area as Full. Mouseover where Full shows Peter Felten and his box pops up. Same for Beat Jegerlehner.

Closed, cleared cache, etc., restarted. Same. They do show as dots on the Elevation Plot. Replay runs, but doesn't show any icons.

Going into Full for those not finished or scratched, shows them out on the course.

    • Beat Jegerlehner (no icon, nor in Full) is moments from reaching McKinley Creek from Elim.
    • Steve Cannon is over 2/3 from Moses Point to Elim.

Trackleaders has been a little flaky all day, so I'm doing an update while I can in case we lose it altogether.
    • Beat Jegerlehner was in and out of Golovin this morning, still fairly dark. The East cam shows a glimpse of his head going down a street towards the exit onto the ice. But he was moving too quick to fall within the ten minute cam snapshot window... just some better defined tracks on the North cam where he walked to get to the sea ice.
Now he's off the sea ice and up the delta towards White Mountain, ~five miles to go.
    • Peter Felten and Steve Cannon track as paused at Elim.
    • Eric Johnson climbed the rest of the way up from Foothills and nearly back down onto the straight stretch that leads into Shaktoolik.
    • Grant Maughan and Klaus Schweinberger tracks as a little distance out from Tripod Flats on the way to Old Woman cabin.

Kaltag through Nome show clear skies, some scattered clouds, except for low overcast above Golovin.

Yesterday, Mar 19, the finish in Nome was disassembled.

They got serious about removing the snow.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-nomecam-zoomed-out-losing-snow.jpg

Then the crane arrived to move the finish arch.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-nomecam-snow-removal-crane-arrived.jpg

    (I missed the lift)

Today we see it tucked over at the side. We currently have a great view of the finish area and the finish arch. Let's hope the cam stays aimed that way.

Beat Jegerlehner left Topcok for Safety just after 12 noon AKST (1pm AKDT).
After that, the Finish in Nome!

Steve Cannon and Peter Felten are over halfway across the sea ice from Golovin to the river delta that leads to White Mountain.

Eric Johnson is out on the sea ice to Koyuk, showing 27 miles to Koyuk (plus ~5 for this year's detour). Shaktoolik showing 14 F with a wind of 26 k from the North and visibility of 1.25 miles. Update: now 28 k, vis 1 mile.

Klaus Schweinberger and Grant Maughan are both over halfway from Old Woman cabin and Unalakleet.

Thought I'd go check where people are.

Eric Johnson is somewhat before halfway across the sea ice, around one third of the way to Koyuk on this year's route. He got on the sea ice nearly six hours ago. Here's the screenshot.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-iti-2019-03-20-17.30-akst-eric-johnson-sea-ice-into-34-40-k.jpg

    Shaktoolik:
    • precipitation 0.005
    • temperature 12 F
    • wind from 10 degrees, at 34 knots, gusting to 40 knots
    • visibility 0.25 miles

On his heading, right in his face.

This is the web cam snapshot looking out over Shaktoolik. This view is above ground level; ground level is usually worse for blown snow.

    • Beat Jegerlehner is Paused, less than an hour, over halfway between Topcock and Safety.
    • Steve Cannon has turned west from the NW route out of White Mountain, heading for Topcock. Had a bit of wind in his face (see below).
    • Peter Felten tracks at White Mountain, from roughly two hours ago.
    • Eric Johnson is somewhat before halfway across the sea ice, around one third of the way to Koyuk on this year's route. Crazy wind in his face.
    • Grant Maughan and Klaus Schweinberger are both over 3/4 of the way from Old Woman cabin and Unalakleet.

    • Unalakleet: 17:56 AKDT, 21 F, 340 at 16 k, overcast.
    • Shaktoolik: 18:23 AKDT, 12 F, 10 at 34 k gusting 40 k, precip, vis 0.25 miles, report says it's clear...
    • Koyuk: 18:29 AKDT, 9 F, 340 at 14 k, precip, overcast, vis 2.5 miles.
    • Elim: 17:56 AKDT, 14 F, 10 at 23 k gusting 27 k, overcast.
    • Golovin: 18:56 AKDT 12 F, 330 at 20 k gusting 28 k, precip, overcast.
    • White Mountain: 18:56 AKDT, 10 F, 350 at 20 k gusting 24 k, overcast.
    • Nome: 18:53 AKDT, 10 F, 20 at 16 k gusting 24 k.

Gusts in Shaktoolik where reported up to 44 knots, then the view in the cameras got worse.
Here's two before the cameras went down.

    To the north-west over Shaktoolik.

Beat Jegerlehner last trackoint shows as the same trackpoint as earlier, on the track from Topcock to Safety, apparently hunkered down just past the Solomon river.

Steve Cannon shows as remaining where he stopped just after turning west on the river out of White Mountain after walking against 20+ knot winds. Sat images shows where he stopped is in the lee of trees from that north wind, where ahead of him was open.

Peter Felten tracks at White Mountain.

Eric Johnson tracks as continuing on the sea ice, over three-quarters across the ice to land. Walking into that wind, in light then dark, blowing snow and likely whiteout, with vis in Shaktoolik at 0.25 miles and in Koyuk at 2.5 miles, his trackpoints show him on the same track as those before him this year. The aerial photos don't appear to show any trees between there and Koyuk.

Grant Maughan and Klaus Schweinberger are in at Unalakleet, ~three and ~1.5 hours ago.

    • Unalakleet: 23:56 AKDT, 17 F, 360 at 15 k, precip, overcast.
    • Shaktoolik: 23:56 AKDT, 8 F, 10 at 32 k gusting 37 k, precip, overcast, vs 0.5 miles. (cams still out - I wouldn't be climbing the f'n mast in this either...)
    • Koyuk: 23:03 AKDT, 5 F, 220 at 16 k gusting 28 k, overcast, vis 2.5 miles. Cams look good up at the airport; not so good down on the ice.
    • Elim: 23:56 AKDT, 10 F, 10 at 19 k gusting 25 k, overcast, vis 10 miles.
    • Golovin: 23:56pm AKDT, 6 F, 340 at 19 k, overcast. Cams look clear in town.
    • White Mountain: 23:56 AKDT, 8 F, 360 at 17 k gusting 25 k, high overcast. Yet cams show moon to SE.
    • Nome: 23:53 AKDT, 6 F, 10 at 14 k, broken clouds.

Eric Johnson made it off the sea ice on this year's green route to the river at 2:11am AKST.
And to the turn up a tiny tributary at 2:21am.

No trees, but apparently there's shelter.

Around four hours ago, Beat Jegerlehner got underway from his stop between Topcock and Safety. Once reaching Safety, almost immediately he left Safety, and Beat is underway for Nome!

Checking Steve Canon's trackpoints shows that he'd gone past where he Paused last night, and up off the ice on track for Topcock a short distance before returning to the lee of those trees around a half hour later. He left that spot around 14 hours later, near five hours ago, and continued on the track for Topcock. He is moving and appears to be past the halfway from White Mountain to Topcock.

Peter Felten left White Mountain nearly two hours ago, and is just past where Steve Cannon had Paused overnight.

Eric Johnson shows as Paused at those shelters by the river just off the sea ice on this year's Green Route to Koyuk.

Klaus Schweinberger's and Grant Maughan's trackers show them as moving on the ice still within Unalakleet, likely heading out to Foothills.

Eric Johnson left his Pause after the sea ice around two hours ago. He is around halfway along the land portion of this year's Green Route to Koyuk, showing 7.5 miles to Koyuk.

Beat Jegerlehner has crossed the Nome River, showing 4.3 miles to the Finish.

(and the aim of the Nome cam is back showing the tourist building... if anyone is there, perhaps they could suggst to them that showing a lot more buildings, the street and the Iditarod Finish year round might be a lot more interesting to people...)

    • Through light cloud, we can still see the Fast Ice and the lose pack ice in the sound and Norton Bay.
    • Open water remains close to the point of Little Mountain. The participants'/route's approach and exit from Little Mountain means that is irrelevant - the route's entry onto the sea ice towards Koyuk is sufficiently to the east.

    Here's the sat image.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-iti-2019-03-20-top-norton-sound.jpg

And here's a very imperfect overlay of this year's Green Route.

The fast ice in the east of Norton Bay appears to be robust against the open water at its nearest to the Greet Route, BUT, the image clarity, resolution and the overlay inaccuracy means this is not definitive.

Peter Felten's tracker kicked in and reported. He's obviously been out from Topcock for a while, as he's nearly a quarter of the way from Topcock to Safety.

Eric Johnson is well out on the land route from Koyuk.

Klaus Schweinberger is in at Shaktoolik.

Grant Maughan is around halfway across the straight stretch into Shaktoolik. 35 F at 14 knots from his front right.

Steve Cannon (7.5 mph) and Peter Felten (5.6 mph) currently have 35 F at 16 knots from near behind them.

Peter Felten's tracker kicked out three trackpoints on the Nome side of Cape Nome. He's likely somewhere between six and nine miles out from Nome, on his way to the finish. Wind from 70 degrees at 12 knots, precip, overcast.

Eric Johnson went right by Kwik River and is on his way to Moses point.

Klaus Schweinberger has just left Shaktoolik for Little Mountain.

Grant Maughan's tracker has him last reported in Shaktoolik. No Paused or green-tent-thing status.

And the radio just started playing Bohemia Rhapsody, so all's good except for some crazy warm temperatures...

    Shaktoolik: 36 F
    Koyuk: 43 F
    Elim: 43 F
    Golovin: 40 F
    White Mountain: 40 F

Was still cold up along the North coast this week, but I think that's about it. Fairbanks was 57 yesterday. 47 in Anc today. Gunna put summer tires on my car next weekend

Eric Johnson had arrived in Elim around 2:45am. Then he has two trackpoints out of Elim for Golovin, one at 11:29am some distance out of Elim, and one at 11:34 and has gone 152 feet. That was nearly a half hour ago. Might be pausing, might be tracker awol.

Klaus Schweinberger got on the sea ice by Little Mountain at 9:21am. He's currently well out on the ice, showing 23.1 miles to Koyuk (which will be plus the extra for this year's Green Route).

Grant Maughan had a more eclectic exit from Shaktoolik. First he headed towards the usual exit, but instead got down on the ice beside Shaktoolik around 5:05am and headed north-west beside the village. He headed north out by the airport, turning a little north-east before turning west around 5:45am. At 6:05am he was heading back to Shaktoolik, returning to where he had been Paused in Shaktoolik. With the warm temperatures, perhaps that exit wasn't a good choice. Then he rested, perhaps needed or took the opportunity to get dry. In any event, it wasn't until 9:21am that he was leaving Shaktoolik on the usual path to Little Mountain. He tracks at around 2/3 of the way to Little Mountain.

Eric Johnson is nearing where the land route out of Elim joins up with the usual route out of Walla Walla.

Klaus Schweinberger looks to be around 3/4 of the way across the sea ice portion of Little Mountain to Koyuk.

Grant Maughan is well out on that sea ice portion to Koyuk.

Shortly before 1pm AKST, Eric Johnson left Topcock for Safety!
He stepped to the side to Solomon for a moment, and was back on the track to Safety. Currently showing ~10 miles to Safety.

Grant Maughan continued on and is ~four miles from Elim.

Klaus Schweinberger continued, then crossed the short ice cross, then he tracks as Paused back a bit to the east around 2pm.
Sat images confirm there are shelters there.

It looks like Eric Johnson's side trip to Solomon ~4:42pm AKST may have been looking for shelter.

Back on the track to Safety, he very shortly Paused beside the track at 5:17pm AKST.

Pipestone’s Pete Hansen takes on, and completes, the Iditarod Trail Invitational 350
    ...
“After that first night, I almost abandoned the race… didn’t finish,” he said. “The forecast called for nice weather with a low of five degrees and highs of 20-25 for several days, so I packed extra light – no warm boots or anything. It got down to 25-35 below zero, depending on where you were on river, and I was miserable. All of my lights shut off because my batteries were either low or alkaline. I pulled out my phone for light, took it out and the lens immediately shattered due the change in temperature.

Klaus Schweinberger's tracker last reported at 10:12pm AKST, ~1,800 feet shy of McKinley Creek, after 14+ hours from Elim.

There have been a few incidents recently where a number of trackpoints don't appear on trackleaders at their time, but appear later. Klaus's recent trackpoints had been reporting every ~5 minutes. Klaus may have stopped at this last reported trackpoint (shy of the shelter) and isn't recognized as paused, or he may be at the shelter and his tracker will report whenever.

    10:42:09 PM (AKST)
Paused, zero distance travelled, at McKinley Creek.

    (So a few missing reports.)

    Golovin: 23:17 AKDT, 30 F, 180 at 8 k, precip, low overcast, freezing fog.
In recent hours, recorded up to 22 mph, light snow, fog/mist, freezing fog.

Klaus Schweinberger was out of McKinley Creek around 3am AKST. He's well over 3/4 of the way to Golovin.

Since he headed out, Golovin changed from light snow fog/mist to overcast, RH dropped from 100% to 96%.

Klaus Schweinberger got into Golovin around 6:25am AKST.

By 6:33am he had already left the last home of Golovin behind to pass the pond to get on the ice. Like Grant Maughan before him, the tracker showed he didn't use the usual way (green dots)(seemingly generally avoided since the warm weather & rain, also shown by a lack of tracks in the FAA web cam snapshots). Not taking the road but cutting across the ponds, tracking shows he retreated a bit at back to the road on the south-west side of the ponds before continuing out to the ice of Golovinin lagoon.

He's well out, nearly a third of the way across the ice to the delta that leads to White Mountain, showing ~12 miles to get there.

Grant Gaughan was out on the ice in front of White Mountain around 8:20am, heading out for Topcock.

Klaus Schweinberger was in at White Mountain at 2:12pm AKST.

Grant Maughan continues out of White Mountain for Topcock. There a part up there where the trail does or doesn't follow the Klokerblok. A bike and a walker took the river. Grant started to, but reversed and resumed the trail that most traversed.
Just a ways across the top and he'll be at the descent to Topcock.
