Looks like a big party in Iditarod, 6 cyclists holed up there right now! Guessing they are waiting for the weather to clear and some dogs to come through in the hope that will improve the trail? The lead runner Beat is slogging along impressively!

Girdwood musher Nicolas Petit on Tuesday led the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race into the tiny, Kuskokwim River community of McGrath more than two hours ahead of the pace set in the record Iditarod run of 2016.

His team was more than an hour behind the time set by Tyson Flaharty – the first fat-tired cyclist in the Iditarod Trail Invitational (ITI) to reach McGrath last week.

If Petit goes on to win the Iditarod in Nome, he stands to pocket more than $50,000 and the keys to a new Dodge truck. Flaharty won a free entry in a future, 350-mile ITI race.

    • John Logar, Petr Ineman, Troy Szczurkowski and Jose Bermudez are moving and ~1/3 of the way from Iditarod to Big Yentna, with some slower speeds logged.
    • Kim Riggs and Missy Schwarz are following, nearing 1/4 of the way to Big Yentna, logging variable speeds.
    • Steve Cannon shows as out of Moose Creek heading for Iditarod, also logging slower speeds.
    • Beat Jegerlehner is nearing Moose Creek, showing 8.4 miles to go. Seeing a number of trackpoints with speeds in and around 2.5 mph.
    • Peter Felten shows as having left his resting spot just past Tolstoi ~3 hours ago, but it's slow going logging sub 1 mph speeds.
    • Florian Reiterberger shows as still holed up in Ophir.
    • And the rest appear to be resting in McGrath, likely waiting for better trail conditions.

After around four hours for three miles, Peter Felten has Paused around an hour ago, a short ways past Tolstoi.

Klaus Schweinberger left McGrath, maybe an hour ago.

Beat Jegerlehner shows under four miles to Moose Creek.

The rest are pretty much moving or resting as they were.

    Well, this is it...

    https://craigmedred.news/2019/03/07/worst-of-times/
Beaten by weather too warm, Donald Kane – a 57-year-old veteran of the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail from Knik to Nome – is headed home to Australia.

Reached by telephone in the outpost community of McGrath in the heart of Alaska early Wednesday, the aging Scotsman said that he realized on a sweaty climb out of Takotna in wet, new-falling snow that it was time to join those abandoning the weather-plagued trail of ’19.
    ...
Kane turned around and started pushing back to McGrath. “I walked all the way,” he said. It took him nine hours to cover a distance of only about 20 miles. He was offered a couple of rides but didn’t take them. “There were snowmachines in the area,” he said. “I told them, ‘No, I can walk back.’ We’re self-supported.”
    ...
With the trail gone beneath blowing snow, the lead bikers spent Tuesday in the Iditarod checkpoint and rolled out Wednesday morning onto trail that had reportedly been snowmachine-packed at least part of the way to Shageluk.

Klaus Schweinberger headed out from Takotna to Ophir.

    • Beat Jegerlehner tracks as just in at Iditarod.
    • Missy Schwarz got the green-tent-thing at Big Yentna, and had been tracking as out on the trail, but now her tracker has been absent for 41 minutes.
    • Kim Rigs didn't get the green-tent-thing at Big Yentna but got Paused. She has also been tracking as out on the trail, but her tracker is still reporting. Showing ~23 miles to Shageluk.
    • Troy Szczurkowski is showing moving ~1/4 of the way from Shageluk to Anvik.
    • Petr Ineman and John Logar are tracking around the halfway point between Shageluk and Anvik.

    Lots of movement today.

    • Troy Szczurkowski is through Anvik and Grayling and is showing Paused since 8:43pm, nearly 1/3 of the way from Grayling to Eagle Island.
    • Petr Ineman and John Logar show at Grayling. Petr shows as Paused and John has a green-tent-thing. Both have been there over five hours.
    • Jose Bermudez is moving and is around 3/4 the way from Anvik to Grayling, showing less than five miles to go.
    • The last trackpoints & icons for Missy Schwarz and Kim Riggs are near Anvik. Missy's tracker just stopped reporting at 6:26pm as she pulled up to Avik. Kim's last report was at 6:14pm, out on the river there.
    • Steve Cannon shows Paused at Shageluk.
    • Beat Jegerlehner tracks as Paused at Big Yentna.
    • Peter Felten tracked a number of pauses today and is currently moving and tracking low to moderate speeds. He's made progress against the trail as he's less than two miles to Moose Creek.
    • Klaus Schweinberger is moving and is past the south leg of Ophir to Tolstoi and is well on the SW leg, showing 9.3 miles to Tolstoi.
    • Florian Reiterberger is still tracking as Paused at Ophir.
    • Grant Maughan is moving and around the 1/3 mark of Takotna to Ophir.
    • Donald Kane and Eric Johnson track as Paused at McGrath.

    Thanks for the updates Canoe.

As someone definitely not local to the area could someone with a bit more knowledge indicate the distances along the trail for some of these settlements/huts please? I know McGrath is at 350 miles and recognise one or two of the other names but have no idea about the rest.

You can see that yourself by opening the https://trackleaders.com/iti19f.php on the MAIN MAP.
    • Click on a 'station' icon and it will open a box that gives the station's Route Mile and the Distance to the next (named) station.
    • Put the mouse pointer over a participant's initials icon (which indicates their last reported trackpoint) and it will open a box that includes:
      • the age of that trackpoint,
      • the Speed & Route Mile, and
      • their distance to the next (named) station.

In the attached screenshot example, with the info box for Moose Creek open, the mouse pointer is still on the station icon, so its small box showing the station name is also open.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-station-short-participant-info-boxes.jpg

And if you mouse-over in the Elevation Plot across the bottom, it will display a corresponding map Pin on the course track on the Main Map. Move the mosue until the pin is where you'd like to know the Route Mile, and you can read the course distance (route mile) and elevation on the right side of the Elevation Plot.

Cutting the corner to Grayling, or all the way up the winter trail via Holikachuk before angling to the river?

Just skipping Anvik and going straight to Grayling.

I rode the South Route a few years ago, in similar conditions. Pics and writeup from the Iditarod to Kaltag leg, here:

It's so easy to sit here on the sidelines and armchair this. But keep in mind that these peeps have been out there for, what -- 2 weeks now? And they likely made their gear decisions a ~week before that, before flying up to AK?

Simply pointing out that you make a best guess on what you think you might get, but what you get is always different and as such you have a compromise.

Many, many people choose the D5 tires for this event. That makes some sense in that they are fast on hardpack and acceptable on ice. They flat out suck when the snow is deep, or wind affected. Again, compromise.

Last time I rode this route I used Bud up front with BFL out back. That was a good overall compromise.

If I were looking at the forecasts these peeps were a few weeks ago, and knowing what I do about the route, I'd have probably opted for the 27.5 x 4.5" Cake Eater's, or maybe a set of 2XL's with snipped knobs. The former would have been good as far as McGrath. The latter would seem to be better since McGrath.

If I don't get to hedge my bets as I just did, I'd always lean toward the 2XL's. Slower on hardpack for sure, but so much more capable when things are other than hardpack. Given the amount of country this route covers, and the likelihood of the trail being buried by fresh or blown snow, I'd prefer to be able to ride, even at 3mph, while everyone else pushes along at <2.

    • John Logar and Petr Ineman show as Paused ~40 minutes ago, just past Eagle Island. Which likely means that the actual physical stop location this year is somewhat past the trackleader's station marker for Eagle Island.
    • Troy Szczurkowski tracks two to three miles shy of them, at 3.4 mph.
    • Jose Bermudez shows over one third of the way to Eagle Island from Grayling, last trackpoint showing six mph.
    • Missy Schwarz and Kim Riggs track at Grayling around three hours ago, and show as moving around now. Might be getting ready to head out.
    • Steve Cannon is moving, last at 7.1 mph, on the track between Shageluk and Anvik. Showing 21 miles to go to Anvik.
    • Beat Jegerlehner tracks as moving 3.2 mph, less than two miles shy of Shageluk.
    • Peter Felten tracks as moving, last at 2 mph, nearing halfway between Moose Creek and Iditarod, showing 8.3 miles to go. Peter started out from Paused on the trail around three hours ago.
    • Klaus Schweinberger shows as moving, last at 2.6 mph, out from Tolstoi nearly three hours ago. Showing ~35 miles to Moose Creek.
    • Grant Maughan tracks as pausing in Ophir for less than an hour, then heading out for Tolstoi. Moving across the top, he'll soon be at the south leg to Tolstoi. Last showing 3.3 mph with ~18 miles to Tolstoi.
    • Florian Reiterberger still shows as Paused at Ophir.
    • And tracking still shows Donald Kane and Eric Johnson at McGrath.

At least last year the ITI organizers (Kyle and Kathi) said that skipping Anvik wasn't allowed - the racers needed to stop at all the villages along the route. As far as I am aware, no one skipped Anvik, even though it was super tempting. I think Troy took the trail that headed to Graying out of Shageluk, but backtracked. This year it looks like everyone so far went via Anvik.

No idea if it is the same this year, but I would expect so.

    • John Logar and Petr Ineman show as moving, past Eagle Island, approaching Quail Island, on the way to Kaltag with 42 miles showing to go, with Troy Szczurkowski tracking one mile behind them. But with trackers reporting somewhat randomly, that isn't exact.
    • Jose Bermudez also shows as past Eagle Island by around six miles, on the way to Kaltag, ~18 miles behind Troy.
    • Missy Schwarz and Kim Riggs track as past Grayling, Paused from ~three hours ago, over halfway to Eagle Island.
    • Steve Cannon tracker last reported at Grayling, since three+ hours ago.
    • Beat Jegerlehner tracks as Paused for an hour, ~nine miles shy of Anvik.
    • Peter Felten tracks as moving, over halfway from Iditarod to Big Yentna, after pausing in Iditarod for less than an hour.
    • Klaus Schweinberger shows as recently Paused, ~2/3 of the way from Tolstoi to Iditarod.
    • Grant Maughan tracks as Paused at Tolstoi, since ~four hours ago.
    • And tracking still shows Donald Kane and Eric Johnson at McGrath.
    • Florian Reiterberger shows as Scratched.

Pounding out speeds of 5 to 6 mph, a trio of fat-tired cyclists at the front of the Iditarod Trail Invitational powered up the Yukon River Friday morning leaving nothing but good news behind for the leaders in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
    ...
Both the ITI and the dog race were slowed by new snow, blowing snow, rain and warm temperatures there. The cyclists ended up pushing their bikes for much of 100 miles.
... thought the dogs were sure to overtake the human-powered racers.

Mother Nature, however, appears to have had other plans. The temperature in Anvik remained an unseasonably warm 34 degrees Friday afternoon, but the speeds at which Petr Ineman from Illinois, West Virginia’s John Logar and Australia’s Troy Szczurkowski covered the 55 miles from Grayling to Eagle Island made it plain they had a white sidewalk on which to ride.

    From https://www.iditarodtrailinvitational.com/news/ March 8

Eric Johnson from Odgen Utah is on the trail but his tracker is not working or he forgot to turn it on, but he did leave the McGrath check point 2 days ago.

Also from ITI News (although I removed their fbid from the link..)

Article includes some photos of the trail near Iditarod.

Sea Ice - Taking a longer look out to Norton Sound.

Concentration by Unalakleet shows 9-10 pack ice as the river meets the sound, with open water beyond.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-ice-desk-2019-03-08-unalakleet.jpg

Showing open water west of Shaktoolik, it shows Fast Ice across to Little Mountain and curving around Norton Bay to Koyuk, continuing as Fast Ice along the shore to nearly Elim, but not quite.

To get clear sat images, we have to go back to March 3, confirming the open water from Unalkleet to near Shaktoolik, with open water near the point by Little Mountain, and with open water at the point later in the day (different sat). After that, it's too cloudy, but March 8 images through cloud from three sats seems to suggest open water at the point.

Currently, there's a sliver of Fast Ice shown next to shore from Topcock all the way past safety to Nome. But Safety Sound/Lagoon shows as 9-10 Pack ice. The forecast has most of the shore from east of Elim to Nome as Marginal Ice Zone (<= 8 pack).

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-ice-desk-2019-03-08-norton-sound-forecast-2019-03-13.jpg

The stretch across ice to Golovin currently shows as Fast Ice, but the forcast for that stretch for over the first 3/4 of the ice to Golovin is for Marginal Ice Zone (<= 8 pack).

And one March 8 image before the cloud thickened shows open water starting to intrude into Golovnin Bay, supporting the Ice Desk forecast.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-golovnin-bay-2019-03-08.jpg

The Ice Desk cautions against relying upon Concentration reports or Forecasts for ice conditions at or next to shore, as the methods lack fine resolution.

Yeah, has to be. Checked the ITI site for rules and couldn't find them, but what you wrote makes sense.

I remember someone cutting the corner on the ice and skipping Koyuk one year, maybe 6 or 8 years ago. Ballsy move, and fast -- if you make it...

You should explain what 'fast ice' is so that people here don't get the wrong idea.

You don't really touch the sea ice until after Shak, when you make the crossing to Little Mountain.

Also worth mentioning is that a bit after Golovin you leave the sea ice and don't really touch it again.

    Sea Ice

The concentration of sea ice matters for the navigation of ships through water. Or conversely, to those wanting to cross on top of the ice.

Fast Ice is sea ice that is frozen fast in place: fast to the shoreline, fast to sea floor or fast to icebergs that are grounded in place.

Fast Ice does not mean that bikes, sleds or people can go very fast. It's composition depends on how it formed. A nice slow freeze with little wind (fat chance), or freeze/thaw with wind and currents pushing pieces of ice around, freezing together then breaking apart repeatedly, until it freezes fast. So fast ice can be relatively smooth, or rather chaotic with ridges, waves, bumps or all sorts of ice chunks sticking up, raised on top, or whatever mix, be they exposed or hidden by snow, blowing snow or dark.

Highly related to that is Pack Ice. Pieces of ice floating around, but how tightly is the ice packed together. It gets rated out of 10, indicating how much of the water in an area is covered by sea ice. A 5 Pack, 5 Tenths (Pack), 5/10 Pack: is 50 % sea ice, 50 % water. A 9 Tenths is 90 % sea ice, 10 % water.
I think a 10/10 Pack is 100 % pieces of ice, but they're not frozen together.

If you look at the sat images that show the pack ice moving around in the wind, you can see it well spread out (say 3 Tenths), then the wind blows it together against the shore or Fast Ice (say 8 Tenths), and it may even get compacted to 9 Tenths or 10. Then the wind changes and it all breaks away again, and it may tear some rather large (even island or peninsula sized) chunks of Fast Ice (or what looked like Fast Ice...) away with it.

These days, I don' think the ITI has actual "written" rules. In 2018 there was talk of cutting out Anvik, so I asked in the pre race meeting and was told No.

I think Aidan Harding in 2011 skipped Koyuk. Tim Hewitt mentioned cutting across from Shaktoolik to directly across the bay, but it wasn't clear if he had actually done it or not.

These days not even the Irondog goes that way, too much iffy sea ice.

ITI News Mar 9 says Florian Reiterberger has left Ophir. They hope to hear from him once he's back somewhere with cell service.

    Then there is...

    From ITI facebook
    https://www.facebook.com/iditarodtrailinvitational

'three hours ago' (from ~2:45pm, so ~11:45am?)
    • Florian Reiterberger is still in Ophir, helping with the dog race and waiting for a flight out. He is doing well and his knees are feeling better. Hopefully, the weather will improve and he will be able to leave Ophir today.
    • Update on ITI 1000 foot racer, Eric Johnson: He left Iditarod last night and is on his way to Shageluk, where we hope to intercept him and reset his tracker.

    ~2pm, Route Mile ~700

Well past Old Woman Cabin, John Logar and Petr Ineman had me going wtf as they reached Route Mile ~700. Then I turned the map to aerial.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-route-mile-700-iti-201-03-10.jpg

I'd guess there's a bit of flooding from the warm temps, where it's low where the Chirosky River comes in to join the Unalakleet.

    Unalakleet: 14:56, 35 F, 80 at 11 k, increasing overcast.

These may show Troy Szczurkowski leaving Unalakleet, from the airport's FAA cams.

There is no regular traffic in the image view at these spots. Snapshots prior to these show nothing there. These match the times he was passing by. Weather sucks for viewing, but the size and shape is credible. No way to prove it's him. But it is possible, perhaps probable.

EDIT: nope - scale is wrong - too big/far and track shows down on the ice, not on the bank

John Logar & Petr Ineman just in at Shaktoolik.

    Still pulling up South air.

    • McGrath: 19:53 AKDT, 33 F, 210 at 7, gusting 15, precip, broken low, overcast above.

    An odd tracking.
Tracker stopped reporting. When it came back, GPS was a little off for the first trackpoint.

    Almost all quiet.
I was waiting to make a screenshot as Klaus Schweinberger was pulling into Shageluk, but the update that reported Klaus as at Shageluk, reported Petr Ineman as heading out for Koyuk. There might have been a moment between tracker reports where no one was moving on the course...

    Klaus pulled in with 28 F, from 210 at 11 k.

And Petr is heading out across the sea ice into 20 F from 30 at 13 k. Pretty much right in the face.

Shows that the last trackpoint is also the "Last Update Rec'd".
Does not show as Paused, just that last trackpoint. So has the tracker or trackleaders failed to send or 'detect' a Paused status, or has the tracker just stopped tracking.

He's been travelling with or close to John Logar since at least Grayling. John Logar shows at Little Mountain with green-tent-thing, Last Update Rec'd of 09:44:42pm AKST 03/11/19.

So either Petr went on without John, or perhaps John went with him but John's tracker is also no longer reporting.

This is the clearest sat image from March 11, 2019. Lots of cloud obscuring.

Underlay, imprecisely, on the expected course map posted by ITI News.

    • Comparing the red course to the green course from Little Mountain to Koyuk, the green course measures on map as having a 16.78 % greater distance.
    • For the red course, Koyuk is listed as Route Mile 802.5 and a trackpoint on Little Mountain cabin is showing Route Mile 772.4, for a net distance of 30.1 miles.
    • So the green route is in the order of 35.2 miles, 5.1 miles greater distance.
    • Hmm. Looked longer than it measured.
    • Measured again. I got 21.23 % greater distance. That would be 36.5 miles, or 6.4 miles longer.
    • I guess I'm not very good at this. I'll call it 5.7 miles longer.

    Everybody is moving.

    • Peter Ineman, then John Logar, are out on the sea ice on the way to Koyuk. Indicating ~19 miles to go.
    • Tory Szczurkowski is nearing the halfway from Shaktoolik to Little Mountain.
    • Jose Bermudez is on the straight stretch into Shaktoolik, ~7 miles to go.
    • Missy Schwarz shows as past the jog in the leg from Old Woman cabin to Unalakleet, with ~13 miles to go. Kim Riggs tracker's icon shows her way back near Kaltag, but I assume that's wrong and she is with Missy?
    • Steve Cannon just passed Old Woman cabin, next Unalakleet.
    • Peter Feltin is moving by Bullfrog Island on his way to Kaltag, ~55 miles to go.
    • Eric Johnson is stiring in Grayling.
    • Klaus Jegerlehner is moving nearing halfway from Shageluk to Anvik.
    • Grant Maughan is nearing halfway from Big Yentna to Shageluk.

    • John Logar and Petr Ineman are across the sea ice of Norton Bay and are moving NW on land towards Koyuk.
First across the sea ice, so far their route looks unremarkable compared to the route ITI News posted.
    • Troy Szcurkowski reached Little Mountain 4:24pm AKST, but doesn't show as paused.
    • Jose Bermudez is Paused in Shaktoolik.
    • Missy Scharz and Kim Riggs showed as paused in Unalakleet. Kim's tracker caught up with her. Missy's shows as leaving Unalakleet, almost at the airport.
    • Steve Cannon is nearing midway between Old Woman cabin and Unalakleet. Soon at the jog around the low ground.
    • Beat Jegerlehner is Paused in Kaltag.
    • Peter Felten is moving between Eagle Island and Kaltag, showing by Quail Island, with ~36 miles to Kaltag.
    • Eric Johnson is out of Grayling for Eagle Island, ~39 miles to go.
    • Klaus Schweinberger is moving, nearing Anvik, 6.2 miles to go, tracker not reported in 20 minutes.

    • John Logar and Petr Ineman, track as moving to Koyuk, less than a mile to go. (looks like more than a mile to me ?!? but I've been wrong before; trackleader maps aren't displaying a distance scale for me...)
    • Troy Szczurkowski is out of Little Mountain and started on the sea ice moving to Koyuk, showing 27 miles to go.
    • Jose Bermudez is out of Shaktoolik, still crossing the land towards Little Mountain, around 1/3 of the way there.
    • Missy Schwarz started moving again, on her way from Unalakleet to Foothills, over 1/3 of the way there.
    • Kim Rigg's tracker wasn't reporting when Missy left Unalakleet, so it had looked like the tracker was awol again.
o BUT, Kim's tracker has just reported her moving in Unalakleet, so it looked like Missy went ahead without her.
o Then Kim tracked "powered off" in Unalakleet at 7:28pm.
o Now Kim shows as "asset has moved" at 7:34pm, out near where Missy tracked on the way to Foothills.
o Two trackers, one blocking the other, now off, remaining tracker now reporting properly?
    • Steve Cannon is past the jog on the Old Woman cabin to Unalkleet leg and is moving with ~13 miles to go.
    • Beat Jegerlehner tracks as Paused at Kaltag.
    • Peter Felten is moving, showing ~42 miles to Kaltag.
    • Eric Johnson is moving around 1/3 of the way from Grayling to Eagle Island.
    • Klaus Schweinberger tracks as moving in Anvik.
    • Grang Maughan tracks as moving from Shageluk to Anvik, showing ~20 miles left.

With a course Route Mile length of 960.8 miles, plus 5.7 miles for the longer Little Mountain to Koyuk leg, as of 9:01pm March 12, 2019 (16:07:01 since start), everyone on the course is past the halfway point.

And the first two are in at Koyuk. John Logar and Petr Ineman, showing elapsed times of 16:06:56 and 16:06:57.

    2019 Green Route

I'm not seeing any deviation from the Green Route from Little Mountain across the sea ice. There's tiny deviation at the Koyuk end, where instead of crossing the river and continuing NW a little before heading due west to Koyuk, the tracks show the first three reach the river and head along the bank until they cross westward to Koyuk.

The tracks of Petr and John overland from Koyuk to Kwik is unremarkable from the Green Route.

AND I just did a quick check of the full track for them, and they're tracking as deviating from the Red and the Green route in the middle of Kwiniuk Inlet. They've heading south onto the ice of Kwiniuk Inlet.

    • Petr Ineman and John Logar are out of Kwik, roughly halfway to Moses Point.
    • Troy Szczurkowski is about to arrive at Koyuk.
    • Jose Bermudez is on the sea ice out of Little mountain, maybe 1/3 of the way to Koyuk.
    • Missy Schwarz was out of Footills, up and over the hills, and down on the flat towards Shaktoolik.
    • Kim Riggs shows as paused some distance before Foothills, with her tracker not reporting for over 16 hours.
    • Steve Cannon shows as Paused in Unalakleet, from 15 hours ago.
    • Beat Jegerlehner showed as Paused at Tripod Flats, but moved while I was writing this.
    • Peter Felten shows as Paused in Kaltag, from ten hours ago.
    • Eric Johnston is moving along the river, 10 miles to go until Eagle Island.
    • Klaus Schweinberger is moving along the river to Grayling, showing ~13 miles to Grayling.
    • Grant Maughan shows as having arrived in Anvik a short while ago.

    Course deviation across Kwiniuk Inlet.

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-variation-kwiniuk-inlet-moses-point.jpg

Note: The cloud-covered sea ice sat images haven't given up much in the past week. But, some fuzzy glimpses have suggested that a coastal sea ice route from Kwik through to Walla Walla might be viable. Perhaps the locals have determined such is safe and there's a new track to follow. And we've had lower temperatures along the upper parts of Norton Sound for some days now.

    Days?

Yesterday's post at ITI News said, "After 17 days, ITI athletes are spread over more than 300 miles."
I count 17 days today, and trackleader's Since Start has just ticked over 17:00:00.
So 17 days today, not yesterday?

At 17:01 AKDT, a tiny black spot was seen in the distance on a Shaktoolik FAA cam at the point where Missy Schwarz tracked.

At 17:11 ADKT, two are seen just inside Shaktoolik. It's the right place, size and time. Possibly them. Can't know.

At this time, with Kim Riggs' tracker still paused back on the route from 19 hours ago, I don't know where Kim is.

    • Petr Ineman and John Logar are past Moses Point.
    • Troy Szczurkowski Paused at Koyuk.
    • Jose Bermudez is off the sea ice and is now overland to Koyuk.
    • Missy Schwarz (and likely Kim Riggs) is newly in at Shaktoolik.
    • Steve Cannon Paused in Unalakleet.
    • Beat Jegerlehner is near halfway between Tripod Flats and Old Woman cabin.
    • Peter Felten is out of Kaltag, near a quarter of the way to Tripod Flats.

Awesome View from Elim to the SE from the FAA cam.
    Wish it was higher resolution.
Easy to see the open water, but it's not as close as it has been some years.
We'll see where John and Petr go when they head out.

    update:
    • John Logar and Petr Ineman crossed the peninsula and got into McKinley Creek cabin around three hours ago. Next up is Golovin, showing 22 F with 100 at 11 k.
    • Troy Szczurkowski left Koyuk for Elim. On the green route to Kwik, showing ~32 miles to Elim.
    • Missy Schwarz and Kim Riggs headed out from Shaktoolik in the dark and are halfway across the short distance of sea ice to Little Mountain. Next, the sea ice to Koyuk. Shaktoolik showing 11 F, 30 at 7 k; so they've got the wind in their face.
    • Beat Jegerlehner headed out from Old Woman cabin and is nearly halfway to Unalakleet.
    • Eric Johnson Paused by Bullfrog Island, almost immediately after the last update.
    • Klaus Schweinberger is out of Grayling and is nearing a quarter of the way to Eagle Island.
    • Grant Maughan has just left Anvik for Grayling, and is not yet on the river ice.

The leaders are less than one hundred miles from the finish in Nome.

Everyone on the course tracks as past Route Mile 500.

    • Jose Bermudez is past Kwik, nearing 1/3 to Moses Point, also getting decent speeds.
    • Missy Schwarz is on the sea ice, nearly to the land portion of the Little Mountain to Koyuk run. Logging speeds up to the 8 mph range.
    • Kim Riggs' tracker has her back at Little Mountain, but we don't believe that.
    • Steve Cannon tracks at Unalakleet.
    • Beat Jegerlehner is approaching Unalakleet, showing ~7 miles to go, last at 3.1 mph.
    • Peter Felten is 2/3 to 3/4 of the way betwen Tripod Flats and Old Woman cabin. Speeds variable, but some into the 6 mph range.

The time on the Nome cam timestamp is off.
Refreshing every second, on a box that's better than 100 ms to UTC.

(I don't know how to format this)
Image timestamp AKDT, Refresh AKDT, Fast by, Race AKST, Adjustment
    02:19:03 02:14:42 00:04:21 01:14:42 01:04:21
    02:22:03 02:17:42 00:04:21 01:17:42 01:04:21
    02:35:04 02:30:42 00:04:22 01:30:42 01:04:22
    02:39:04 02:34:42 00:04:22 01:34:42 01:04:22
    02:43:04 02:38:42 00:04:22 01:38:42 01:04:22
    02:49:04 02:44:42 00:04:22 01:44:42 01:04:22

    Iditarod Trail Invitational 2019 - Feb 24-nomecam-timestamp-adj-2019-03-15.jpg

The Nome cam image timestamps are AKDT, and are fast by four minutes and a number of seconds, showing twenty-one to twenty-two seconds.
An image had to have occurred by its refresh time.
Therefore with the above for calibration, an image had to have occurred by the timestamp minus the adjustment, giving us a Race timestamp.

Timestamp of 02:35:04 is 01:30:42 AKST.

John Logar and Petr Ineman are nearing the descent to Topcock.
Both trackpoints are slightly old (3 & 6 min), so no idea who is/isn't in front, but they're very close together.
