I would be interested. I live in portland, and have no car, if someone wants to carpool I'll split gas! Sounds like fun!

    Update "Bump"

Looks like we're going to meet on the beach out in front of the Shiloh Inn at 10:00am.

5 or 6 of us for sure and several more have it "penciled in".

Couple folks coming late Saturday so we'll likely get a ride going for Sunday as well.

Here's a "re-post" of our ride vid from last year...

    Yahoo!

The Spokane contingent will arrive Friday and we might poke around a little in the dark that evening. Definitely ride Saturday and Sunday will depend on if we stay and how much we indulge Saturday evening I think.

The weather will help us decide as well. Remember the Friday before last year? 40+ gusts and heavy rain...

    Mission Accomplished

The second annual Northwest Fatbike Meet took place over this past weekend and exceeded all expectations. Quality trumped quantity in this case . . . the five of us that were able to make the Saturday ride experienced unseasonably-awesome sunshine and warmth that was to die for. I can only speak for myself, but it's a day that I won't forget for a very long time, if ever.

Ward shot a ton of video and I don't envy the editing task he is now facing. All that any of us can hope for at this point is that he hasn't fallen into the pile of clippings and suffocated. If he does emerge out the other side, as I expect he will, you will be treated to some serious fatbike beach film candy (no pressure, Ward!)

In the meantime, here are a couple of stills to set the tone . . .

We had a pug, a muk, a fatback, a nine-o-seven and a custom. Diversity rules.

We were highly-cognizant of the fact the our fatbike mates across the pond were conducting a similar gathering at the same time, and so it was a high priority for us to stop and conduct a toast to our brethren. A tough job, but it's un-American to shy away from this type of duty and honor. Below is just a glimpse - Ward's video will do this toast it's full justice (no pressure, Ward!). Great to hear/see that our UK friends had a great time with their get-together as well.

There was a kind of hypothetical-question-type-discussion that did take place at one point, possibly after a few beers, as to whether we would have been willing to trade some bottled sunshine for some mother's milk. Guinness is pure joy, there is no doubt, but these lovely golden rays are just the type of thing that puts the greed in greedy Americans. I'm not sure we ever resolved the question. Good thing it was only hypothetical.

One thing for sure I think, whatever side of the pond you're on: Boy, do fatbikes ever = good times.

Ya, Two couples probably in they're sixties walk by together and as they walk by the ladies say "Look at the wheels on these bikes... holy cannoli" (really, they said that) "I've never seen wheels like that in my life"... "their sand bikes" "they are, their sand bikes... isn't that something... thats what we need honey- you need to put tires like that on my bike". The cam was pointing the wrong way after they got past my bike so they're hard to hear and you can't see them but they have a little conversation about them and squeeze the tires.

Basically, I forgot to turn one of the cams off when we went in the tavern.

    Day 1 Ride Film

Here's day one's ride film. Weather was awesome! Almost too good. Ocean Shores had not seen significant rain since July so the sand was drier and softer than usual forcing us to run record low tire pressures in some areas. Last year's group ride in the same area we were "railin'" in place's where this year we were crawlin'. Spent allot of time on the packed sand to get the miles in this time. Had a blast though! Can't wait for the next group outing! Great group!! Thanks everyone!!

Cool video Ward! Great choice of music, too, as usual. I wish I still lived in Seattle. I would have showed up for sure.

I'm curious about the custom fat bike. Has that been featured somewhere else on this forum?

I've posted lot's of info here and there about it over the years. The project was started in '07 and I didn't take delivery 'till '08. At the time, it was the first fat bike I know of made of aluminum. It's basically a cross country 29er hard tail built wide enough to take LM's & fat bike tires (endo's were all there was then). My Fatback out performs it in the sand and snow for sure, but its "all around" capability's make it my favorite bike ever! With the Husker Du's mounted up, it's just a big, burly (and resilliant) cross country hard tail.
