The goofy things we cheapskates do!

So when I bought my Pugs, I had my heart set on a Jones Loop bar. None in stock on his site. Search the web and I can't find anybody with a used one for sale at that time and my bike was scheduled to arrive within days and I wanted the bars on it before I picked it up, I know me and I wouldn't end up buying them if I hadn't had them on at the beginning.
So I find a BIN on eBay for the Jones cut loops that is $20 delivered cheaper than new(never installed, used but essentially new) and I go for it.

2 months later I am still jonesing(yeah, I went THERE!) for the full loops. Can find a few used now but do I really wanna spend that cash and then hope my cut ones sell? Geeze, it is 5" of straight bar that I am missing between the cut bars....

    Hold the phone!
    Light bulb goes off....

Cue 1 1" dowel cut to 5" long.
Cue 2 strips of duct tape.
Cue 1 roll of black electrical tape.
Cue 1 roll of Cinelli bar tape.

A half hour later and she looks like a full jones loop. Sure, I can't or shouldn't use the center dowel portion as a hand position but for lights and accessories, why the heck not? That really was all I was going for anyways, a place to put my stuff so I can not loose hand positions.

I shouldn't be so dang excited about my redneck solution, but I just might be! It was too late to do pics tonight and I should have taken some as I went but I'm sure you get the jist.

Cut the dowel to squeeze into the gap(I cut it just a bit bigger then wrestled it in there like a wedge), duct tape around both ends to secure to the cut bar portions, wrap electrical tape around the whole she-bang from weld to weld on the bars, then wrap with matching cork grip tape all the way across. Done!

This obviously isn't for using as a hand position but being wedged, taped twice, and wrapped should give it enough stability to use with mounts of various kinds and lighting options.

Looks good to me.. .like you said, the front section is really most useful for things like lights, GPS', and other ancillaries.

You're small, right? Wrap it with Gorilla Tape and it might be strong enough to grab on to.
