    Favorite fatbike images.

With the COVID restrictions the past few months I've been doing lots of organizing and tidying up of my actual, virtual, and mental spaces.

Recently I came across a photo that I hadn't seen in a few years and actually had some time to just sit and look at it. The more I looked, the more I liked it.

In some weird way it fits this dystopian moment.

Location is Alaska's Lost Coast, near the Kaliakh River mouth.

I found this abstract about the wreck:
"The barge Yakutat drug anchor in the Kaliakh River, swamped and foundered west of Cape Yakataga and north of the Kaliakh River September 14, 1979. Two men were washed overboard and lost. A 15 year old girl held on to the wreckage all night and then swam to shore at daybreak."

We rode our fatbikes past it on a fatbike/packraft traverse of the Lost Coast's northern section in the late summer of 2016.

    Full trip writeup is here.

My Surly Pugsley, the first bike that really made me appreciate the benefits of fatter-than-normal tires in my desert riding habitat. Probably a big factor in why I still enjoy ďPlusĒ tires while most are abandoning them.

One of my favorite is not mine so Iíll place a request if the lines are open.

    Mike,
2010-2012 time frame you posted a silhouette shot of your Moots against the Northern lights. I think you posted another couple of attempts at similar over the years but fairly certain the first one was it. I think it might have had a red tail glowing too. At the time I used it as an open screen on my first iPod Touch. Still on there sitting in a drawer somewhere.

This is pretty cool shot at sunset, from a lady that was enjoying the sunset with her dog, on Beaver island.

Reminds me of a very peaceful ride. Breaking snow early in the AM. Beautiful.

Since someone refreshed this thread, it got my attention again.
I just moved this pic to my desktop at work. From several years ago.
There was just enough room to the left of the fallen tree to get past and continue upstream.
Up to this point, I'd ridden about 95% of everything in the creek, including up the previous waterfall. Fun day!

I don't have many pics to choose from.

This past weekend we had an annual guys weekend planned in Maine. Early in the week my main ride basically blew up. Did everythingni could to fix it without success and the last resort was to bring it to a shop w 3 week lead time on repairs. &*#@!!!!!

Should I buy a new wheel, cassette, rotor, and tire, that I don't really need? Should I try to borrow a bike that I will beat on? No good solution. Until...... I went and bought my 1st fat bike spur of the moment. I know 10 guys who highly recommend Farley's so that was easy. Explaining it to Mrs Scott O? Not so easy.

Here's some pics the day I bought it last week and hit up some local trails. Guess I'll need to throw out all of that xc ski gear now.

Stopped to take a pic of my new American Stout near this cool bridge today...ended up finding this little gnome in the tree it was up against. I hear people leave them for others to hunt and find?

    Ha!

Really was so random, had I not leaned my bike against the tree I would've never have saw it. And I stopped for a minute too to check out that bridge (Glad I did, had a funky spot) and had a drink and caught my breath. I dig really random stuff like that...

That type of find is part of a good and memorable adventure! Gomez was here written all over that.
