I have a fatboy pro and love it
I've been riding clipless and have been debating on going flats
we rode a sloppy day last week and I saw the attraction to flats and have a pair that came with my bike
my question is what are you guys riding in the snow and cold
i have a pair of lake 303's that I've been riding on and love them
Does it make sense to pull the clip off and use Them for the flats or just use my hiking boots?
Thanks
...and there were a bunch of other related threads I didn't bother copying the links for. Not trying to be a dick, but new threads like "fat bike boots" and "fat bike pumps" are a weekly occurence on here, and much of it is just the same info from last week's thread repeated over and over...
Here is what 10 seconds of searching turned up, searching for "fat bike footwear:"

Just saying maybe there is something to add. There are new riders daily not only asking questions but replying as well. Not saying that my reply a few posts above added any real value to the conversation but it is a view that would have never had been shared had I not happened upon this new thread.
For snow I am going to use my Merrell hiking boots. I haven't tried them out yet with snow but they don't have any issue with grip. Vans are for the spring, summer and fall.
I use a pair of North Face winter hiking boots on my flats for snowy winter rides. They are relatively light and very warm and allow me to bail when I need to.
I took the cleats off the bottom of my Specialized mtb shoes thinking they would be the way to go with flats. Nope, they keep slipping off. I use my Saloman hiking boots, and they stick great. I've got a pair of Merrell Fraxion winter hiking boots on order 'cuz my toes get a little chilly in the Salomons (not winter boots). The Merrells have a sort of questionable sole for sticking to the pedals as well as the Salomons, but we'll see.

Hard to beat the Lake 303's for riding in the winter. Too, they have a more robust tread that typical MTB shoes. I've noticed with mine that they seem to grip the pedals more like a boot than a cycling shoe. I wouldn't want to ride my fatbike without clipless pedals in the winter, that's for sure.
I tried flats with the cleats off of my Lake boots....I think the grips are too blocky & wide open....didn't grip well at all.
I grabbed the vasque arrowheads when they were blowing them out, they've been great.
Maybe it would be a good idea to have the "winter fat bike footwear" and "winter fat bike clothing wear" consolidated into one or two seperate posts and stickied to the top of this forum.
Seconded, an updated sticky thread would be very helpful. I'm new to this whole arena. The sport is still niche-y enough that equipment options are relatively scant when compared to other cycling disciplines. It's not surprising that questions on these topics are continually brought up.
I pulled the cleats off my lake 303's today and swapped pedals for the bennies that came with my bike today
I really enjoyed the ride
Grip was good had no issues slipping off
First time on flats since my bmx days 20 years ago
Look forward to getting out again soon
