Boris X9 Bluto on the way! Help with mods!

    Hey all!

first post on here! I got a Boris x9 bluto on its way for my first fat bike! Pretty siked on it and can't wait!

any recommendations on some easy first mods for it?

i would really like to go tubeless right off the bat. Does the gorilla tape method work ok on the rims?

Split tubeless is probably your best bet.

Those weinman 80 rims don't setup tubeless very easy. Need to do some some of tubeless kit that's a split tube and rim strip/sill strip method. It'll work, but not as good as a mulefut wheelset. The tires are kinda low end to. Nice and light for smooth dirt trails, but traction isn't as good as some of the other tires. So many threads on "what fatbike tires should I get" that you're on your own for tire recommendations. Everybody has different requirments for tires.

    Other changes/upgrades:

I prefer ODI grips over WTB grips. Bigger and more comfortable.

Shorter stem/wider bar, but that's a personal preference based on size. Mine came with a 110 stem, and taking it down to 80 was a good change.

Pinned pedals. The stock pedals are actually pretty good for street shoes and heavy winter boots, but they definitely lack in the "good grip" department. If you're just spinning along on road/smooth dirt/smooth snow, they're OK. If you're actually riding trails, get better pedals.

If you plan on snow riding:

Just wear some regular bike gloves under these, and once you warm up, they're good. And if you ride in freezing temperature, keep your phone near your body. If you put it in a frame bag, the battery will go quick.
