170mm Hub Wheels on 190mm Frame Question

Really dumb question and I apologize if this has been asked and answer at least a dozen times already...

Is it possible to run Rolling Darryl's with a 170mm hub on a bike with 190mm in the back? It would seem like "hell no - you on crack, boy?" is the correct answer, at least to me.

    Thanks

We used to squeeze 126mm wheels into (steel) road frames that were the new130mm width but you could never mismatch 20mm even with a steel frame.

Yeah, I figured as much but wanted to double-check with the MTBR brain trust that knows far more about this than me.

    Thanks for the help!

Could you put a spacer on one side, but then you'd have to shim the rotor over, probably lots of flex.... Better to sell the wheel and buy the proper one
