    Spawn pricing and shipping

I was about to order my son a yoji 16. The price is pretty steep for a 4 year olds bike but seems worth it. Then they hit you with a 40 dollar shipping charge 435 total. I thought everything I had seen showed they were around 370. Is that the going price in one these little bikes?

It looks like the base price this year went up from $370 to $395, which isn't too surprising given the impact that tariffs seem to be having on the bike industry.

We got ours last December when they were on sale for $350 (before shipping) -- as far as I know the period around Black Friday / Christmas is the only time of year that Spawn tends to have a sale.

Most reviews don't tend to mention shipping charges, so the difference tends to get lost in comparisons of price vs. other kids bikes.

Amazon Prime has killed it for most small companies now, everyone seems to expect free shipping on top of a sale price. But Spawn does run black Friday sales as Tim mentioned (if you can wait a bit).

The price is steep. And correct. And it's also worth it.

Amazon hasnít killed me on the free shipping stuff I donít even have an amazon account. Itís just odd to me that Iíve bought a few different niners in the last few years and have yet to pay shipping. 40 dollars just seems pretty steep for something that weights less than 15 pounds. Guess Iíll just have to bite the bullet and spend the money crazy how 40 dollars made me question it but spending 6k on a bike is no big deal

I totally understand! I had to pay shipping for TWO bikes in one shot and that number gave me pause. If your kid likes bikes, he'll love that bike. And the resale on them is historically high. After a week, you'll forget all about the shipping!

Does anyone know how good the black Friday deals are? Im planning on getting a yama jama and just wondering if it's worth waiting vs the next two months of not riding it.

    Thanks

Historically the sales have been about 5% off, but not all models have been on sale every year.

Looking back I see some old threads mentioning that the Yama Jama wasn't included in the 2017 sale. Off the top of my head, I seem to recall the Yama Jama being $50 off and the Kotori being $100 off last year.

A couple of years ago, I bought a Spawn from a bike show (the one in Toronto). Spawn gave 10% off (even online orders) during that show.

It may make sense to check out any bike shows they will be attending.

If you think the Yoji is expensive, wait till you get to 20 inch wheels... you'll be dropping a grand or more if you want a decent bike. Spawn is the best value IMO. My son still rides his Yoji 16 at skate parks and pump tracks, and most of his friends have one and still ride it 3 years later - so something like $120/year for many hours of entertainment. The one kid whose parents saved $100 by getting a Woom-- well that bike isn't much use anymore.

    This.
I've started recommending to parents to buy a nice bike first time around. My son started riding 16' at age 3.5. If I'd bought him a Spawn then, and he's still riding it at 7, likely to ride another year--that's down to maybe $50/ year after resale!
