Dropper Post for Small Frame 27.5 Bike

My youngest son is now riding a small sized Specialized Pitch. To stand over the bike, the seat is dropped to almost its lowest position. But when pedaling, I noticed that the seat needs to be raised in order to get decent extension of the legs. So I was wondering if a dropper post is the solution. If so, how much travel should the dropper post have for a kid that is 5 foot tall.

You need to measure it yourself.
Assuming you have correct sized cranks for their height (155 would be a maximum for the cranks but you can buy these off the shelf)
My 9yr old has 142mm cranks and 120mm dropper
