    Cleary Scout

Noticed this on Cleary's website while checking their size chart. Successor to the Meerkat. 9-speed drivetrain with that funky shifter is gone and replaced with a Deore Shadow+ RD and Sunrace 11-42 cassette, 28t NW chainring, Suntour XCR fork, and tubeless-ready rims and tires. No weight listed, but I'm sure it's <25 lbs. Looks like a lot of bike for <$900.

Interesting bike. It's a Chromo steel frame tho which mean it'll be heavy I'm guessing. The cranks are laughable at 165mm tho. Geez that's huge for a 24" bike. Those would Def have to be replaced for some 140mm. Strange

Yeah, a little odd they went with that crank length. You'd be surprised how light a well-built steel frame can be. I'd bet it weighs 23-24 lbs. Not the cream of the crop, but a nice looking option for someone who can't afford a Trailcraft or YJ24.

Gotcha, makes sense. 24lbs would be really nice for a 24" for sure. I definitely like the 11-42 cassette. I want one of those for our 20" Spawn but I don't think the 10sp SRAM GX supports it.

Tubeless ready also but probably not set up that way from the factory. Don't think it is going to come in less than 25 lbs. The frame is Chromoly but not high end butted tubing. I know plenty of adult dudes who ride 165 mm cranks for clearance on stupid low bottom brackets. Seems really big for a kid. Longer cranks generally work best with bigger guys who have a lot of power but don't spin well.

    27 lbs. https://www.clearybikes.com/products/cleary-scout-26
Yep, weird crank length at 165. 155 would have been better compromise for cross-compatibility with their Scout 26"
