    20" Hotrock Project

I have a 6 year old birthday coming up he is getting a 20" bike. I snagged a 2013 Specialized Hotrock for $20. The frame and fork are in great shape. I am going to spruce it up with some new and spare parts so it just isn't some used bike.

    Planned upgrades:
    Disc brakes
1x8 speed with some spare newish Alivo that I have.
New stem, handle bars, and grips. (Jensen clearance rack)

Something I would share... inside face dimensions for the wheel spacing are as follows:
    Front (Suntour fork): 101.1mm
    Rear: 140.6mm

The build is underway. Waiting for the hubs to get here so I can lace them up and complete the build. He really wanted a blue bike, so blue is what he's going to get.

All in I'll be into it about $150 including the bike. Some parts were used from my parts bin like the 8 speed shifter, derailleur, and cassette. Need to cut down the seat post (it's all the way in).

The frame was in pretty good shape with the exception to some scratches on the chainstay, which was fixed via the lizard skin.

Here is how it looks before the wheels. New anodized blue hubs laced to stock black hoops. Hoping to reuse the spokes, but have new nipples (black).

    Have fun on your build.

I'm figuring that you just have the bars thrown into the stem while you mock everything up, but just in case, make sure that you rotate the bars so the sweep is rearward. Right now you have them in the stem with the sweep going down.

Just a mock up. Itís apart again until after the hubs get here. Curious kid will find it if itís left together...

Got the wheels laced and trued. Threw some new tires and tubes and got them mounted. Starting to come together. Just need to get a chain-link and looks like it will be just about done.
    Ebay Face Ace hubs $38

    185mm spokes. $24

    Laced to stock hoops

Looks cool I think. He will have a sweet little bike he can grow into. It will be the only one like it.

I'm in to the bike roughly $150 total. Includes the wheel build, new saddle, post, bars stem, brakes.
