    Wreckoning Chainring Shimming

This evening I started my build and when I got into the dub screw in bottom bracket install with SRAM GX crankset I noticed there are only 2 plastic/nylon shims. 1st measuring .060” and the 2nd measuring .160” and also in the kit were 2 aluminum spacers and those do not fit snug against the bottom bracket seal. Now with the .060” the chainring itself rubs on the inner chain guide and when the .160” is installed the chain while on the chainring rubs. If I install 1 aluminum spacer nothing rubs but it could use an extra .010” to .020” more thickness to be exactly centered.

So so what is the fix here? Do I modify the thicker .160” slowly till I’m satisfied or visit a local bike shop in search of an assortment of shims?

Wrapped up the crankset install with the .060” and a .025” wave washer I got from a local bike shop. I get a small amount of rub when on the 50 tooth ring but I’ll live with it as I’m sure it will wear in over time. Now I’m waiting for a seat post sleeve cause I am going with a Fox Transfer in 30.9mm.

I had he opposite issue with a Shimano boost cranksrt it was rubbing in the outer side of the chain guide. 2x $0.20 washers from the hardware store solved it.
