    Wreckoning + 2018 Fox 36 29er 170mm

36 170mm on the way for the Wrecker.

I called and confirmed that it is in fact 170mm. Literally just released and WWC was lucky enough to get some.

Better jump quick as I posted this in the Suspension forum as well.

Good find! Any clarity on what the offset is?
If it is still 51mm, I'll stick with my -1* angle set and 160mm fork. If it is in the mid to low 40mm's, then you have my attention.

Please post your findings. When I asked about their coil kits they said that the same kit worked in a 29 or 27.5 chassis for a given amount of travel. At the time they said the 170mm kit would not work on the 29er since the chassis wasn't built to extend that far. But now...???

This makes me wonder if Fox did something different with the uppers/ lowers to get the 29er to 170mm?

I also added a Works Components -1 headset at the same time.

Interested to hear how you like the headset.
You must be one big fella, your bike looks like a 26er.

The 170mm 36 with a -1 headset on the Wreckoning is working great.

The longer fork combined with the slacker head angle effectively canceled each other out in relation to cockpit location. My bars and saddle remained in almost the same spot with no major adjustments needed. I did drop my stem 5mm lower to get a bit more weight on the front.

The head angle on paper should be around 64.5 but I measure it closer to 64 than 65. It was noticeable for the first ride but after that it felt completely natural. I feel like there is actually less low speed wheel flop and slow speed handling feels better than stock. And high speed? Braaaaaap! The bike is just seeing general trail duty and it feels completely natural.

The 2018 170mm 36 feels amazing. So much less stiction than the 2016 it replaced and the extra travel feels in perfect sync with the DPX2 rear shock.

I really like the longer 36 plus the slacker head angle. Very little negative to speak of with this change. About the only thing would be that I had to move my weight balance slightly forward due to the longer front-center. Once I figured that out after the first few turns it was business as usual.

It feels just like the stock Wreckoning but with added stability and confidence at high speeds or in steep technical terrain.

I would not be surprised if the next gen Wrecker moves in this direction.
