    Anyone? Racing one this weekend.

5 stage race...entry fee is a 6 pack. Winner takes all. Simple.

It was held at Two Rivers Mountain Bike Park south of Springfield MO.

Unsanctioned "bro" race. Kind of off the radar so we don't end up with too many people involved. Only do it once a year so you'll have to wait until next December. Heck of a fun time had by all.

Oh, given your name, I assumed it was in Co, hence my surprise of not having heard of it

All that and not a single pack of Mother's (I can't see one zoomed in) for shame.

How do we get this started in Colorado? I know tons of people that would do this!

We do ours under the radar. The local venue (Two Rivers Mountain Bike Park) is in on it, but we do not advertise it heavily. It's more of a "bro" race, so there's not insurance requirements, etc.
If you want to do it, talk to your friends, pitch it. You'll need to figure out the venue, create the stages and have a few people to take care of timing. I have a spreadsheet I can send you that will help with timing. The spreadsheet helps but it still takes some effort. Synchronize watches before the event. Record on pen/paper. One person records the start time for each rider (by name or number), get as fancy or as simple as you want. We've done sharpie numbers on paper plates, or just have the riders yell out their "number" before they hit each stage. Then the finish timer writes down the finish time for each rider.
You'll need a laptop and some time to manually enter each start/finish time into the spreadsheet - the spreadsheet does the rest (calculates stage times and total event time). You can then sore the spreadsheet in order of finish, by name, etc.
Entry price is a six pack, we kept it to cans only to eliminate broken glass at the event. Host a BBQ after, do an awards ceremony. Make it as simple or as complex as you want. Winner takes all? How about a youth category, their entry is a pack or red bull or what have you. Ladies maybe have their entry be a bottle of wine if they don't like beer, etc.

Alternatively - you can create Strava segments for the stages and use Strava for race timing.

We had about 40 riders. The timers spent about an hour entering all the data as everyone else was BS'ing and BBQ'ing.
If you start publishing it via social media - you may end up with a ginormous circus and you'll need to coordinate with land managers, get insurance, a timing system, etc.
There were a few mistakes with the timing, it's heavily dependent on humans writing down numbers and transferring it to a spreadsheet. Apologize ahead of time, it's not serious racing...it's a heck of a fun event. It's the purest form of mountain biking with bros that I know of.

I love the idea of a rider yelling their number out, that sounds like a good time! What a great way to bring the community together. I think we would need to stick with friends first to see how it goes. Finding a venue would be the biggest hurdle unless we did as a secret meetup group or something.

I was thinking about using Strava segments to make the timing easier, but I would love the spreadsheet! Is it ok to put my email on here for you to send it to me? Thank you for all the good info!!!!
