# Thread: What Data on Garmin Data Screen for Est. Time of Finish?

1. ## What Data on Garmin Data Screen for Est. Time of Finish?

is there some data that can be displayed to help calculate or estimate what the finishing time will be?

In other words, if I have 7 miles left and I want to know how fast I should ride so that I can finish within x hours.

Just to think out loud, maybe with a tcx file, maybe I can turn on navigation and turn on the data for time to destination?

2. I always run the average pace data point and I know how long the course is. So I could do the math in my head. But I think more in terms of miles (and at what mile I want to start hammering) than time. Some marathon races I have done are Over/understated which can slightly throw this off.

3. I do the math in my head as a distraction technique to make the time go by faster.

^^^ Me too! Calculating and re-calculating constantly through the ride.

But then there's always that one, last bullshit climb near the end that didn't look like much on the course profile (I'm looking at you, Breck Epic!) and all your calculations go to hell; but that's just part of the fun!

You don't win anything by guessing your actual finish time correctly. That said, I calculated by CM100 finish time, with over 1.5hrs to go, within a few seconds of actual. So if I CAN win something with that feat, I'd like my cookie and gold star now! (blind squirrel, nut, ya know...)

8. It all depends on the course. 7 miles left could be 1 hour, 30 minutes or 2 hours depending on what those 7 miles are.

9. if you really want to geek out...
