    He references two studies. The second one is virtually worthless because it compares chocolate milk to calorie-free beverages. That tells me nothing about chocolate milk, except that it has calories (which are usually a good thing for recovery).

    The second study is the source for this anecdote that won't die. It was sponsored by the National Dairy Council (there's another one sponsored by the National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Board). That does not, in itself, negate the study, but if you look into the one guy who ran this study with money from Big Milk, he's more of a product whore at this stage of his career than a scientist. Wheaties. Pure Sport. EAS.

    These days, you can find a scientist to justify or rationalize anything you want to believe (just ask anyone in Congress). Yes you'll be perfectly fine with your post-ride chocolate milk. It sugar for that recovery window (although a relatively low GI), and some protein. I believe there are slightly better alternatives, but if you just love chocolate milk and it will help ensure you get those recovery-window calories, then thumbs up.
