    Completed my first 50!!!

After getting skunked at last year's Leadville Silver Rush, I finally completed my first 50 miler this past weekend at the Wedu Aspen 50 mtb race/ride. Came in dead last, but that really doesn't bother me, as my goal was to just finish. 48 miles with 6800 ft of climbing completed in just over 7 hours. Actually missed the 6 hour / 40 mile cutoff by a few minutes, but as the course marshals were trying to pull me I just said "Nope, I'm good" and just kept riding. Luckily, they were very cool about it and let me finish.

Course was awesome, with a lot of single track that I had never ridden before. Scenery was incredible and the trails were awesome. A nice mix of terrain ranging from road /dirt road (not much), high alpine meadow single track, ridge lines, and about 6 miles of technical stuff at the end via the Government Trail between Snowmass and Buttermilk ski areas (glad I pre-rode that the day before).

After party was at L.A.'s personal residence and apparently my unwillingness to exit the course impressed a few folks and L.A. himself gave me a shout out during his after party speech. Overall, it was a bad-ass weekend in Aspen!!! Will definitely be doing this again next year.

That's awesome. I can't believe I hadn't heard of that race. I'll definitely check it out for next year!

Yeah, it looks like it. I realize why I hadn't checked it out before. It's the same weekend as Telluride Blues and Brews, which for me is an annual chance to hang out with some out of town friends for three days of mountain biking, bands and beer. Gonna be tough to make it to that. Maybe if the Sunday lineup sucks one year. It was killer this year though. We shall see.

    Congratulations!
Small ring in front makes it easier. Small ring in back makes it harder. That blows my mind.
