    Turkey 'Cross 14

Anybody planning on doing the Turkey Cross this year? Just found out about it and thinking of giving it a go.

I'll be there to help support a local race. Did it last year, was a bit injured, but still enjoyed the course.

This race is more of a technical course than a power course so great for mountain bikers. It has fun technical bits, lots of turns, and my favourite part - tricky sandpits. Christie is a great spot for a cross race!
I'm a maybe though. I only got a citizens this year so I'll have to look into my options. This would be my only cx race so I don't want to get the full cx license.

I'm currently planning on doing this race as well as most of the other Ontario Cup CX races. Of course doing Midland, Barrie, Barrie three Sunday's in a row will be tough since its a 2.5hr drive each way for a 40min race. But we'll see what the car pool situation is when everything gets started.

Do many beginners participate or is it a pretty serious affair? I guess everyone needs to start some time.

The entry level division is E4 or M3 (depending if you are over or under 35 as of Dec 31st this year).

There won't be many if any beginner riders there (AKA people just getting into cycling). There will be people trying out cyclocross for the first time for sure. The top people in even E4 or M3 will be fast, but there will be a large spread of abilities (down to people getting lapped).

As you said, everyone has to start somewhere and this is a great place to do that.

I'll be racing the middle race (M2). If you see me wondering around in a Rock and Road Cycle race kit, (might be a few of us, I'll have a black/yellow Scott CX bike), say hello.

Still trying to get work off. Thanksgiving weekend is proving tough to find volunteers to switch shifts.

I am tempted to spectate out of sheer curiosity to see whether Unglued will flat or crash first.

Was sunny, cool to start but warmed up nicely. A pleasant early fall day.

The course was exceptionally fun from my perspective. It even had some sweet Christie singletrack in it. Definitely a great course to keep a mountain biker amused. I really enjoyed myself, even with getting punched in the face during the 2nd last lap. (We made up after)

Super fun course! Was my first CX race (other than tuesday night practice) in 3 years and I had a hoot. Was right in the thick of it, and loved the singletrack section. One guy in my start (M3) crashed three times on it on one lap. Obviously a roadie. Weather was perfect and the atmosphere was great. I wanna do more of this sort of race.

And as for my result, I didn't puke, crash or come DFL. So WIN!

I battled with one guy who was clearly stronger than me, but he crashed at least twice, maybe three times in front of me. So we kept battling back and forth, he'd catch me, pass me, then crash (or cut me off in the sand). Then I think he rolled his tubular off the rim and that was it. Felt kind a bad for him.

And I agree, I wish this was a typical CX course, I'd be out far more often.

I went as a spectator. Barely rode the past couple of months and I just wasn't any where near the condition I should have been.

Unglued, I heard you telling your friends about that guy (I think you're British) but didn't know it was you. CptSydor I haven't met you either, so didn't know you were the one who got punched at the barriers. We were all standing there shocked and then people started yelling his number at Kevin LOL. That was bizarre. Even if he thought you wrecked him (it was the other way round) there is no excuse for that sort of thing.

It was fun to watch although I was hoping for more drama at the beach.

I was there as well. it was my first real CX race and I had a blast. Even carried the turkey for half a lap I finished near the back in M3 but was passing people towards the end so it made me feel pretty good about my race. Not a total failure I guess I'll be back for sure.
