    Rideau River Trails in Ottawa

Does anyone else have fond memories of this little natural riding park? I've had a tonne of fun riding there since the first time I was ever in Ottawa - like 1995.

I am not sure what trails you mean.

I spent a couple weeks last July, riding my old beater bike, before I got my new mountain bike, on the bike paths in downtown Ottawa.

    One circuit I did repeatedly:

Start at Mooney's Bay Beach or Hog's Back Falls (They are adjacent)
Follow the Rideau River to the Rideau Falls, at the Ottawa River
Go along Sussex Drive to the back end of the Byward Market
Ride through the Market, to the Rideau Canal bike paths near the National Art's Center
Ride up the side of the Rideau Canal, around the Dow's Lake Pavillion, into the park
Cross over the top of the canal locks at Carleton Univesity
Follow the bike path on the other side of the Rideau Canal back up to Mooney's Bay.

Is that what you are talking about, or do you have some other trails in mind?

Those were mostly paved bike paths and roads.

No. The first leg of the ride you mentioned - along the Rideau river. At one point on those NCC recreational trails you probably pass under the Transitway right between Lees and Hurdman stations - right across the river from the old Algonquin College downtown campus (now closed).

Well, there is a little patch of forest before you get under the transitway, and there is about a half hour of fun riding in there. Little drops, climbs, twisty turns and fast smooth singletrack. Beware the old hobo that lives in the woods - hard to miss considering how small this little patch of trees is. To actually get a half hour of riding you need to do almost ever inch of trail in both directions, but its a real gem considering its proximity to downtown.
