    Rep Power, WTF?

So MTBR seems to have upgraded its back-end and we wake up to a tweaked forum. Now, there's something called "Rep Power" under your post count (I think I'm an 8 FWIW.). And you can add to someone's reputation by clicking the little "scales" below that.

    This should be interesting...

PS, we can also multi-quote now.
Please enjoy seeing this terrible collection of me - something wonderful is about to happy.

They should be adding support for the Tapatalk mobile app shortly. I'm looking forward to that.

It goes up quicker if those with higher rep power give you rep.

Here to see what I have, expecting it to be pretty low

    Well that's just super.

Now I'm running around to see what other people have. Of note, electrik has a 3 and single sprocket has a 9. Bigwheelboy has "infamous" come up when you hover over his "green square". This is a profoundly odd new feature.

I would like to take this opportunity to unequivocally state that this entire rep power dealio is total bull***** in a high school popularity contest kind of way. If your post sucks, then I'll post up a reply saying exactly that. None of this passive aggressive points scoring method trash.

I would like to make myself a poster child for the MTBR Anti-Rep Coalition (MARC for short, maybe but maybe not having any relevance to anyone on this forum actually named "Marc") by requesting that my fellow forum member use whatever means are at their disposal to keep my rep power score at zero or as close to zero as possible.

This post should also be taken as notice that I can and will give people's posts negative rep for no ryhme or reason, whenever I so choose. Not because of any deficiency in your posts, but as my stance against this rising evil known as rep power.

    Vive la revolution!

I went to My Account to see if I could make heads or tails of this mishegoss and it wasn't much help.

Somehow, I've received 42 "points" today and under "Latest Reputation Received" some joker has posted "GNARLY" and "MARC forever" in the Comments.

Does rep power trump post quantity now in settling arguments?

That reminds me that the "wisdom of the crowd" is reduced to nothing when swayed by social cues via removing anonymousness or other swaying techniques.

It's Unglued's fault, seeing as how he started it below frothing at the keyboard with an unintelligible stream of double negatives. Dude is hurting my brain.

The system's clearly been hacked already. If you go look at that list now, there's some guy called Thien at the top with 2 posts and infinity reputation points.

Ha! I sometimes wondered if that was you on here Shirk, but I had always dismissed the thought as I didn't believe you knew how to use the internet. A picture tells all, looks like a pre-ride tug to me...

Coincidences I suppose then, the guy in the picture looks a lot like a guy I know with the last name of Shirk. I guess I need to get my eyes checked!

That pic and talk of sandwich products? I'll stop that thought right there.

Okay so here is the story...

Splinky put the ham sammy in his shorts where a chamois would normally go. He then rode up Fromme.

At the top Aaron was bet to eat it, and he did actually eat most of it. I don't think he ever got paid his winnings.

Dragged? Someone else cracked before I did.

    http://www.leelau.net/sharonandlee/triple-crown/

The next year mattj and I got the full meal deal Triple Crown done proper. Started at my place mid Lonsdale rode out to Deep Cove touched the water then up to Seymour ski hill, down to 2nd Narrows, up to the Grouse Nest, down to the water at Park Royal, up to Cypress, down to Horseshoe Bay to touch the water, then rode all the way back to the after party at the base of Lonsdale. That was an epic. Even somehow managed to ride back up to my place at 10th while completely drunk after the party.

Rode all the way up Mountain Hwy to the ski hill.

We did push up Mystery DH on Cypress instead of climbing the road.

Mattj did a write up of the day for the Pinkbike writing contest, hope it gets posted. To date I don't think anyone has upper that version of the Triple Crown. A pair of Ontario guys currently holding the bragging rights for Shore epic

I was just poking through the "My Account" page and I see that someone has discovered a new use for the Rep function: anonymous PMing!

Now, if you want to tell some one how much they suck but you don't want to get your hands dirty, just use the Reputation thingy! The power of people to innovate on the internet never ceases to amaze!

EDIT: I think you're limited to a sub-Twitter amount of text so remember to be succinct!

Maybe it was me? Recall that earlier in this thread I did promise to randomly neg rep people for no specific reason.

On another forum I sometimes visit that uses the same software they have it configured so that rep feature shows the user name for any +/- rep given in your user control panel.

I can't wait until the MTBR forum admins decide to expose that data field also one day in the future an "upgrade" of the rep system, and show all the historical data for rep by user already given in the past!

I know of what you speak of.

Half the problem with rep as it is set up is it makes it anonymous. Which for some makes it easier to be unaccountable for neg repping. Joely deals with a similar problem with the Queen's system.

Personally I never give neg rep. Simply because I understand that this is the internet. And that people here will write their thoughts. The problem is that those reading tend to respond emotionally to what they read. And then take offense.... see Sausage Gate. And while I may disagree with some here on stuff. I let it be because it's just words.

i've been neg propped twice from people being butt-hurt over the stupidest things. nothing vulgar or offensive, just differing opinions. i find it hard to believe that people will go out of their way to give positive props. it's just too easy to make spiteful judgements anonymously. honestly, though, this place isn't a popularity contest. unless too many neg props will prevent me from posting, i could care less. if i get mad prps for posting a picture of a hot girl, is that really what i want?
