    Rail Trails

Trying to think of some riding destinations for '17 while my neck of the woods is filled w/ blackflies in the spring. As a railway history buff, I was thinking of a couple of areas, the Cataraqui Trail & the Brantford area.

Looking @ Google Streetview I could probably use the SU200, while taking the Fuel to eastern Ontario.

Can anyone make any suggestions for a reasonably priced & clean motel in the Brantford area? The Cataraqui Trail runs from Newburgh to Smiths Falls thru some not so heavily populated areas. I was thinking of trying to stage near the middle & ride in opposite directions over 2 days.

Do any of you have experience w/ lodgings in this area?

I guess I could stay in Kingston & drive up to the trail to start my day.

The Brantford area has some very nice multi-use paths (some of which are old railways) and you can even follow the old Brantford canal from downtown out to the Oxbow. Some of the ruins of the canal can still be seen and there is a canal lock intact just below Mohawk Lake. While you are in the area, follow the rail trail down to Waterford where you can ride across the old trestle and see the train station in downtown Waterford. Lots of neat info available on information boards along the way.

Let me know if you want more info about the area.
