    OT: Personnel Announcement

It gives Mrs. Monster and I great pleasure to announce that Team Monster will be expanding its ranks by one this season. A shiny new junior member is due to arrive by mid-October.

While a mountain bike forum may seem like an odd place to broadcast such news, we count many of you among our closest friends and this seemed like one of the most efficient ways to tell you all. (If we seemed at all distracted at the Bike Show, it's because we found out that Friday).

    Great work guys!

Whippersnappers really do change your life...for the better.

Hopefully, I'll be able to keep up with the Nerdster by Labour Day. Hehe.

Will you start them on a 29'er?
What if they choose to ride gears? Will you be accepting?

    Thanks, y'all!
    A 29er? Maybe if it's measured in centimeters... /geek
Though, seriously, what did you think the Ute was for - trailwork??? Pffft. Definite motivation to finish up those trails though.
I don't think a run bike will take up all that much space - and it has no gears at all!
I think the Monstercross ride may be out for me this year though!

It's good planning to have kids who can start taking laps for you at 24hr events as you become old and infirm.

Mark/Kim: We are so excited for you guys. And, also excited you can make it.

Suddenly the fact that the SS category is "open", makes me very afraid of this new being you are introducing to the world

That's what the ultrasound says at least but I have my doubts. One of the early warning signs was Kim's insatiable appetite for hot sauce. Be afraid!

Don't forget to buy up a beater turbo trainer in a couple of years. So you can rig it up so the little one can ride the trainer beside mommy and daddy on the kids bike.

    It can be done.

Well, my experience with child creation was the woman lounging around in lace, fully embrocated and drinking wine while the poor hard done by man has to have core workouts 3x daily just trying the woman contented.

Oggie, a man's work never ends.

To elaborate, let's use the Nerds for an example...

Marc will face 6 months of late night runs for Doritos and blizzards, running baths and rubbing sore parts.

Then, to add insult to injury, on delivery day they'll ask a highly decorated engineer to dress up in scrubs and help out the health care system with some free labour. Don't you think as this bears to an end the man would deserve a day off?

Nope, no rest for the weary here.

The entire child creation thing is stacked against the poor man...

All joking aside. The true challenge begins after October when the little on goes home. I'm not referring to looking after a baby for the next 3 years. That being ensuring that Nedgirl and GM have time for themselves. It's far easier then people acknowledge to lose touch with each other when they become parents.

    Friendly tip...

Anyone going to buy clothes for the little Monster. Buy them bigger then you think. Infants grow out of stuff at a rate like you wouldn't believe. When Gabi was born we had stuff for up till about 6 months way more then was ever needed. And little for later. This is where I'd say gift cards are way better.

Again..I may have some stuff to pass on in October for the little Monster.

    Three things...

    1. No off-switch.

    2. No operating manual.

    And most important...

    3. They grow up way too fast.
(not enough people told me this, so I'm passionate to pass it on to others)

    Congrats!

What a perfect, beautiful little guy. The Unglued clan could not be happier for the three of you and Wesley is super-excited about having a new protege.

You guys are gonna be awesome parents and it's gonna be the best most epic ride you have ever been on. I hope you enjoy every single moment of it!

Least of the concerns. The present question is will he ride DH or XC? Consider that GM is an XC endurance type like Ned Overend. Now consider that Daddy Ned has watched his boy take up DH much to his chagrin.

Or maybe he could become the Hamilton Dangerous Theo.

I also think it's awesome that Theo had the good sense to be born on a Wednesday, so as not to interfere with Marc's cyclocross season. This kid has a bright future....

    Congrats.

Now, getting passed by a woman ("chicked") is fine by me. Getting passed by kids who one day hope to grow into their bikes is acceptable. If I get passed at an 8 or 24 hour event by a parent towing a child carrier...that's when I'll start crying.

    Just remembered this.

Back in the day there was a trail on Mt Seymour I think it was. It's name was Dirty Diapers. The builder used to take his baby son to work on the trail with him in one of those baby carrier back packs. Knew it was time for the change when he got a whiff.

Sadly the trail I think is no more.

    It's a learning experience.

Remember, you are a better parent then you think you are. We all forget how resilient they are and if you give them space it's amazing how intelligent a baby and toddler actually is.

And trust me on this. In about a year the conversation will occur... "Maybe he should have a sibling".

Thanks to all for all the kind words.

Things have gone surprisingly well thusfar and we were released just after lunch yesterday.

Here's what Mommy Monster's "media centre" looks like:

And here's Dad and Theo reading a feature piece on the "rationality" of economics in the Globe just after a big breakfast of Belgian waffles this morning:

Finally, here's a great shot of Monster Kitty settling into his new role as big brother.

Despite the crappy weather, we were out for our first walk outdoors this afternoon and I'm pleased to report that Theo seems to have inherited his Dad's love of excellent CX conditions!
Please enjoy seeing this terrible collection of me - something wonderful is about to happy.
