looking for entry level 29er hardtail

My brother is looking for an entry level ride. I think a hardtail 29er would be perfect for the rail trail and light XC he does. Needs a large frame. Looking to spend up to $1000.00 max. If anyone has something that they no longer use. Please let me know.

Was in Sport Chek last week and noticed they carry GT this year. Karakoram looks good and after closer inspection is assembled correctly. Should be as they actually have a trained mechanic on staff.

Your looking at about $500 to 700. And have money left over for things like helmet, water bottle, and the all important U Lock for the coffee shop stop.

Thanks, he has all the biking stuff. Most of it my old stuff. I have tons of components and lots of accessories. He has an old Brodie 26er frame with a bunch of decent enough components, but the wheels are going, needs a new BB and cables, and he is considering getting something new/used.

    Another alternative might be this?

Oxygen Bike Co. Etobicoke's favorite bike and spinning shop.

They have their annual bike swap this weekend.

Depending on where you live, you might want to give the Jamis distributor in Downsview a try. They have lots of well spec'ed bikes at well under $1000. I got my Exile Comp for $777 and I don't regret it. The brand is going hard on 650B for 2014, so they have 29ers to move.

Thanks for the leads. Looks like he found a winner. A basically brand new Nitro P2 for a very decent price. I test rode it yesterday and gave it the thumbs up. My brother is going to pick it up tomorrow. We were checking all the online sites, pinkbike etc, but I was hoping to help someone unload something they don't use anymore.
