    Homage to ice

the homage to ice is set to run this Saturday in Mansfield at the outdoor center.
most of the snow should be gone by then with the way the forecast is looking.
right now only a 30% chance of rain for race day.
and if you're not familiar with the area , the soil for the most part is sandy so it dries out quite quickly.

Agreed on the dryness factor at Mansfield however this is a pile of rain today and the next day and a half too that will make it sloppy for sure right after the thaw. It is what it is though. Early spring racing, which is all good!
A bad day on the bike is better than a good day doing anything else...

looks like the start will actually be at the top of the hill at dufferin forest and not at the outdoor center.
best to check the substance project website for all the details

Rode there last night, wet in spots for sure. But all in all great still.
Dan made an awesome new trail to eliminate some double track, so will be great to break in some more. For a new trail, it is surprisingly smooth!
Should be an awesome day regardless!!!
Dan also posted a video, I have it on the Team van go website, on youtube as well.
    Cheers

mud will be easier on your collarbone than rocks I would think.
I think it will surprise people how fast it dries out up there and still looking like only a 30% chance of a shower Saturday
there is even a little sun in this diagram from environment Canada site

Well I finished the 60K, no thanks to a frayed derailleur cable and a pair of legs that quit on me by the start of the third lap. The third lap was a death march through mud much like 4-6 inched of wet cement, I didn't even realize i had my suspension locked out the ground was so soft. Although a very tough day in the saddle at least I did not get puked on like one poor soul at the start line who had to wash his bike and himself off with his bottles before the race even started.

A big thanks to Dan and the Substance Projects Crew for holding a great event, and mad props to the dude who finished as everyone was packing up. Good on you for not quitting man!

Awesome event thanks to Dan and all the volunteers wrote up a little blog piece about the day.

MVP to Alex Lefebvre who not only rode crazy strong and tore some legs off on lap 1, but also kept calm on the start line during the little upchuck incident.

That was a great day in the saddle! I had two awesome laps and one crap one where I slipped from 6th to 11th. I was really surprised to see 800+m of climbing on my Garmin at the end of the race...it didn't feel like quite that much elevation although it would certainly explain my third lap....
    Strava made me do it....
