    Hilton Falls Race Series...

    Hey all,

I received an email from Mark Burger, of Spokes and Slopes. Heres what it read. I'll definitely be at these races if I can afford it. Between Albion's hills and Hilton falls technical sections, Ill be ready to rock the O-cups next year.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hello once again cyclists

JUNE 15/06, This is the day that a weekly mtb race series will return to Halton. Yes that is right. I am proud to announce that Spokes 'n' Slopes and Hilton falls have teamed up to bring you a weekly race series on thursday nights. The races will be aimed towards all abilities of riders. Whether you are training, challenging yours pals or it is your first time racing these races are for you. For those of you who have attended our spring or fall races, the course will be similar but some of the more technical terrain will be removed to pick up the pace. The cost of the race will be $10 which will include you gate fee if necissary. The series will start June 15/06 and will run every week till Sept 28/06(except for June 29/06) which will give you 15 races in total. The series will be run as a points series. There will be plaques and prizes for the top points leaders in each category at the end of the series. We will also have a few draw prizes each week. I hope you will join us on June 15 to welcome back weekly mtb racing to Halton.

Details about categories, times and course lengths will follow within the next week.

    Your riding friend
    Mark Burger

Remove the technical sections from the race?????

What ya gonna do race around the parking lot?

Now if the course was the bent rim trail..I might be tempted...but racing is not my thing,

Good luck to all, hope some of that money goes into trail maintenace

    Cheers

smiley: Now if the course was the bent rim trail..

I think they are talking about an XC race, not trials.

    Its not that bad.....

Yeah theres a few tough sections but theres sections where you can rip it, at the beginning, through the pines...but not much room for passing
...Speaking of XC racing, one thing I dont get...does anyone think a rider should be penalized for walking the bike? I can understand dabs on tough sections if any on a XC course..sorry I should say technical sections(read roots and rocks). I dont mean to diminsh the atheletes who race, cause it is tough when youre riding at your max competeing with others at the same level and competiveness(<is that a word? ) but I dont know IMO you should be penalized for not riding your bike in a bike race!
(TRANSROCKIES may be an exception)...anyways just a thought...

Have a great long weekend all...any group rides planned?

oh also to happy health.....if the following is true..damn am I healthy...

It has been scientifically proven that if we drink 1 liter of water each
Day, at the end of one year we will have absorbed more than 1 kilo of
Escherichia coli bacteria found in feces.
In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of ****. However, we do not run
That risk when drinking beer (or rum, whisky, wine or other liquors) Because alcohol has to go through a distillation process of boiling,
    Filtering and fermenting.
    WATER = ****
    BEER = HEALTH
Free yourself of ****, drink BEER!!!
It is better to drink beer and talk
**** than to drink water and be full of ****.
There is no need to thank me for this valuable information, I am merely
Doing it as a public service.

    Cheers

I rode with Mark tonight. The race has been cancelled for this week, but will go next week. Everyone should be receiving an e-mail on Wednesday giving details.

if you want to see a half hiking half biking race then the bent rim trail should be included, other then that hilton is a bunch of fire routes that are plain boring. Why make a series of races there, spend that energy somewhere else and improve existing places.

I used to have the same opinion.....but I was wrong. Since I joined the group ride on Tuesday night, I have been introduced to a number of gems that are not on the map. I wish someone would sit down and document all these trails, because it would certainly open a everyone's eyes to a great place to ride. Sure there are no hills (to speak of), but you can certainly have a LOT of fun with the rest of the stuff.

Well I called Spokes and slopes.. they havent even finalized with hilton falls yet. So don't expect to be racing anytime soon.

Man those guys...full of heart but lacking in business acumen.

Looks like this won't start until the fall. Latest thinking is they will have 6 to 8 races in September/October that will lead-up to the Spooks 'n Spokes race, on October 29th.
