City of Hamilton - Gage Park Family Skills Pump Track Pilot Project

Gage Park Family Skills Pump Track Pilot Project
At the meeting of the Public Works Committee on April 22, 2014, members of the Crown Point Youth Council presented a proposal for a Family Skills Pump Track at Gage Park. A pump track is a constructed recreational play space for cyclists that includes a three dimensional surface forming a closed circuit with rollers in between and berms at each end. They are designed to be ridden without pedaling. A full-body workout, riders use their body to pump - or push down into the dip after an elevation and pull up before the crest of a mound - throughout the continuous loop.

Gage Park accommodates a variety of recreational experiences including formal gardens, walking trails and playgrounds with the southern portion containing a range of active recreational program areas including softball, lawn bowling and tennis. The park area at the southeast corner of Gage Avenue and Lawrence Road is where the pump track is proposed to be constructed.
