    FREE Gel Packs!

OK Most of them are half empty, are 2 weeks old (left over from the 24 Hours of Summer Solstice at Albion Hills Conservation Area) and are scattered along the trails used for the race, but they are in abundant supply. On a Saturday ride this weekend, I picked up at least 30 and didn't even put a dent in it. If I'd stopped to pick up all that I saw, I'd still be out there!

Seriously folks, if you really feel the need to use gels in an event where even the most pedestrian paced riders finish a lap in less than an hour and twenty minutes, please have the courtesy to either a) stick them in your jersey pocket after eating the contents and dispose of the packaging appropriately at the end of your lap, or b) even better, spend the $6.00 and buy yourself a gel flask that allows you to buy gel in bulk at substantially lower per-use costs, and eliminate the garbage completely.

    Please!

    These people disgust me.

I routinely pick up enough trash to fill my mesh pockets of my hydration pack every ride, all while wondering what the f*ck is wrong with people?

Maybe the race organizers should take some responsibility and do a post-race clean up of the trails? Better yet, ban the use of gel packs during the race

    Don't like it, ban it!

    Plastic bags
    Pit bulls
    Broad leaf Weed killer
    Common sense...

Race organizers should have sorted out the mess, it's part of the event like the renting porta potties, no?

What are gel packs? I'm thinking of the ones you use to keep your food cold in a lunch box, but I can't imagine why you would open one.

Most people these days are too stupid for common sense, hence the gel packs on the trail.

Every one talks about "Leave No Trace" It's a problem that won't go away.

The problem is the type of people using the trails; adding a garbage can or reminders to not to trash the trails won't solve the issue of people who are disrespectful

Agreed, but what I don't get is that these users were participating in the 24 hour race, so they are less likely to be casual riders. These are exactly the riders I'd normally expect to pay attention to things like this.
