Devil's Gap Trail in to Pigeon Lake [o]

My usual ride is Devil's Gap Trail into The Torrance Barrens.
However today we explored in a new direction, in to Pigeon Lake...

Multi use trails used primarily for sledding in winter. Currently closed for sledding due to poor conditions, but ideal for fat biking!

Did you take the sled trail to Pigeon Lake? Just before the trail 12 & 10 intersection coming fron Old Bala road, the crown land ( Torrance Barrens) ends. Your on private property all around Pigeon and Deer lakes.

Yes indeed, and you are correct. I named the thread Pigeon Lake for the sake of brevity and because my map does not show a name for the smaller lake just before Pigeon. We stopped on that lake for snacks and pics, rode on for a wee bit and then turned back before Pigeon Lake. What I love about the Backroads GPS maps software is that beside showing each & every trail it also shows private land (pink) vs crown land (beige) so we knew exactly where to stop and turn back. Plus that distance makes a nice 3 -3.5 hr out and back ride giving us time for a pint at Sawdust City Brewery

I think your maps might be wrong. I have maps from the MNR that shoe the crown land ending before the 10 & 12 intersection, so the swamp/lake you stopped on is might be private property. This area is a few min fron my house. I know the people that own the land past Pigeon Lake to the Torrance Barrens.

Not trying to argue. Just think the back road maps might be wrong. It shows the old bala road and devil's gap trail as different ones. They are the same trail.

Old Bala Rd?? Not seeing that name on my maps. Devil's Gap Trail and Old Stone Rd trail are both original colonization routes from Gravenhurst to Bala that are parallel if that's what you are referring to. Anyway its patato potato because in 14 hrs on the trails over 4 rides I never saw another soul except for the 2 hikers near the beginning of The Devil's Gap a couple weeks ago who had just seen a coyote.

Old Bala road is what the locals call Devils gap trail. That was the road to Torrance / Bala before Hwy 169. I'll try to figure it out. Would hate to have you run into a property owner hunting and you think you're on crown land.

In my mind Devil's Gap becomes Clear Lake Rd at the Torrance end. The trail that forks off that just past the lake (Little Long?)over to The Barrens is a different trail or are you saying that is still Devil's Gap/Old Bala Rd?

Ah that's good we agree on something!
BTW it was interesting to note when I got this software that a good size chunk of The Barrens off Southwood Rd is also private property!!

Pretty much a write off all season long in southern Ontario. Looks like someone got into the slush on that pond before you guys rode thru Not a big deal nowadays, but a PITA in the old days when you might've only had 15 or 18 HP

Devil's Gap and this trail towards Pigeon Lake was decent! In fact the section of the Pigeon Lake trail past the Walker's Point fork was FATASTIC because after last grooming only 2 sleds had been through!!! However from a previous ride I knew the sled trail that crosses from Devil's Gap south into the Barrens is/was a disaster, even for fat biking and probably impassable for groomers or sleds for much of the season.
