    Close call

The weather was so fantastic today, I just HAD to ride Kelso. Trails were in great shape, and mostly empty.

Just finishing my ride and decide to hammer snakes and ladders (always a blast to ride). Just as I get to the bottom and exit out of the trees, my back wheel locks-up. Not a big deal........except for the fact I am doing around 40 KPH on a very sketchy/rutted path. The back-end fish-tails and I hang on for grim life. Luckily, I was able to keep it upright.

Lets just say my shorts will require an extra rinse when I wash them!

Glad to hear you're okay, Steve!

Don't know what you've got for spare rubber for next week, but I have plenty here if you need a replacement (thinking about your low budget project theme).

    Damn ..... just, damn!

Dark Cycles (Vancouver) were at the bike show. If you need a sample, I believe Spokes n' Slopes (Milton) carry them in TO.

Good work on not eating it!

I don't know if I would have stayed upright, but I definitely would need to rinse my shorts!

Is your rim munched as well?
it tied the room together man!

Trust me, there wasn't any "skill" involved in hanging on. It was more a case of "survival instinct"

The rim (surprisingly) wasn't that bad. I cleaned it up and made sure the bead was smooth. I have mounted a spare tire, and a have had a couple of easy rides without problems. The acid test will be Kelso tonight

well might i suggest starting at the top and going straight down to test (that way you take it easy on the pedals). would you happen to have a helmet cam???

Will do. I find it easier to remove my helmet and duct-tape it directly to my melon. I'll let you know how I get on.

not to mention our regional forum could kick the other regional forums arses.

sssssteve. had my own close call last night. not one to maintain my own ride...i neglected to tighten the rear wheel bolts...for several rough rides including the epic 8 at bumpsfield. sure i noticed the brakes worked like crap, chitter chattering. who cares? it's a single speed? took an extra hop (fortunately applied rear brake in air) and she tried to escape. loud thump and disc twang on landing...wibble wobble we all fall down...ooops.

lesson learned: vertical drops require a safety tighten more then horizontals - bloody gravity. luckily the big rotors kept the wheel in and damage was limited to abrupt stop whiplash.

I actually have notubes that I never got around to installing. I have been experimenting with tire type/width/pressures, and think low pressure was the reason for the lost bead (plus my questionable handling skills judging by the number of rocks I managed to hit)

Guess what I will be doing the weekend?
