Last year was nuts. Rain shower started with the last 6-7 riders to come down the hill. Everyone was was going just a little slower as the course got a little slick. Shower broke for the last few riders and Stevie came down just killing it. Everyone at the finish line was going nuts as they showed his negative splits, after everyone before him had went positive. Crowd exploded once he won.

Fun stuff. Highly recommend checking out the event for those that like watch the world cups (both DH and XCO). Not to mention great riding, DH and XC available as well.

Don't care about the 8 1/2 hour drive. Might just go watch the race and come back...

If you are driving, be sure to leave very early because that midday traffic through Montreal is a drag

I hope you and your friends have a blast! Are you bringing bikes?

World Slopestyle Comp is Thursday July 31. It's setup in downtown historical QC... should be sweet.

    Hope the weather holds up!

Well...leave everything last minute, but we got two nights. Can hardly wait to see some live UCI DH and XC.
Hope to ride the course on Monday before coming home.

Stevie Smith posted on FB some sad news just a few hours ago:

Winning here at msa last year was a unforgettable day for me. Very bummed to say it won't be possible this year. Beleive it or not, I injured my ankle...my good one. 5 hour hospital session and nothing I can do but focuses on the next task. I don't believe in luck but I'm feeling slightly unlucky at the moment with two ankles back to back. Although this one is not as bad as last and will not need surgery, it is still the craps. Track was so much this year and I just want to race my bicycle!! Thanks to all my sponsors for always backing me even during times like these. @cyclesdevinci @redbullcanada @foxmtb @oakleycanada @srammtb @fiveten_official

    Ontario's riders smashed it!

    Brett Rheeder 1st

Matt MacDuff and Andrew Bigelow 6th and 9th Awesome

    The XCE looks interesting.

Four riders compete against each other in each heat, with the two fastest moving up to next round. The format differs from the classic cross-country race both in its sprint character and the separation of the race into heats. The 500m - 1000m short track itself is similar to XC tracks, going both uphill and downhill. The eliminator courses require speed, technical skill and strength. Racing time is about 2 to 3 minutes. The Mont Sainte-Anne’s very first XCE course will be approximately 850 meters long.
Europe-strong sewed this event up. Quebec riders did very well

Course was unreal. Riders are we're almost super human. Few nasty crashes, but nothing major thankfully. One if the best days we had in a long time.

I caught shots of Casey Brown, Vaea Veerbeck and Micayla Gatto just crossing the line and as their timing updated. Micayla Gatto was ahead of Tawnee Seagrave until the last bit of the course after split 2, she went around the final big jump but that didn't cost her the whole 2.7 seconds, it looked like she was on target for a podium.

Piling on to the great DH results for Canada even with the absence of Stevie Smith - most notably Jack Iles in the Junior Men - the XC racers put on a nice show also. C-Pen in 2nd continuing her strong comeback from injury earlier this year, Emily with a great top 5, Kabush still kicking it with a 12th in the always stacked mens' field, and last but not least 'gratz to E-C forum's own swabag who managed to avoid being lapped (pretty tough to do when not lining up in the front rows!) and sticking it out to the end for a result. About half of the starters got lapped and pulled!

Is C Pen still on a 26er? I remember she was when world champ, I haven't followed the racing scene for awhile....basically since freecastertv dropped the xc races

I haven't seen any of the actual coverage, but I think she is still a holdout. If I remember correctly, she and her spouse (MTBR member "LMN") have done all their own testing in as extensive a way as possible and still come to the conclusion that on most world cup layouts a 26er HT was still faster for her around the course - very marginally - than a 29er, but weren't into pushing the opinion of what is better for anyone else, just that this is what works for her. She also rides a 26" FS for selected events.

Here's one of the shots of Catharine Pendrel from the Velirium site, that looks like maybe a 27.5" wheel.

    2014 World Cup Mont Sainte-Anne-velirium-cpen.jpg

and here's an almost impossible to find link to the Red Bull replay of MSA XCO races. Apparently Red Bull must hire ex-scavenger hunt designers to develop their web content, nothing's ever where you expect or in the same place twice.

I find the best way to find old events is to always go to live first. then click on the calendar option below and scroll through the upcoming events then to the older events.......you're right, this is crap.

I use the Red Bull TV app (Android and iOS versions) rather than the web site. More reliable feed. Easier to find the events.
