XT I-spec II shifter with I-spec B brakes, solution.

I had a problem, I wanted new XT 11-speed shifters/derallieurs etc. but my bike had I-spec B XT brakes. Sure, I could have bought a bar mounted shifter with a ugly indicator or waited for the I-spec B XT 11-speed shifters. But since I am a little stupid I decided that there must be an easy way to solve this.

In comes the Hope HBSP327R shifter mount for Hope brakes.

This mount is designed to make the Tech3 lever compatible with I-spec II shifters. The Tech3 lever has a shifter mount that is I-spec A/B compatible. Thus the mount should fit a Shimano I-spec A/B lever and at the same time be compatible with I-spec II shifters.

So I ordered a complete set of XT and the Hope HBSP327R.

To my dissapointment the nuts and bolts that was supplied with the mount did not fit my I-spec B lever. (Should be plug and play for an I-spec A lever).

But nothing is impossible! A little drilling, cutting and filing later a I-spec A nut I had was inserted in my I-spec B lever. The I-spec B nut was not usable. Mainly because the thread was not deep enough. The Hope mount was drilled to make the hole a little bigger. I just had to shorten the screw a little and put a washer underneath the screw and it all fitted perfectly.

From the inside with the little screw that holds the nut in place.

The shifter attached to the lever

If Hope could just supply my "special" nut with the mount it would be an easy way to adapt a I-spec A/B lever to I-spec II shifters.

Thanks for posting this. I've been waiting for someone to hack a solution together for this.

I think I'm just going to spend the extra $30 and go with the XTR bar mount shifter and leave my spec-b levers intact.

Would it have been easier to attach with the I-Spec B bolt & nut unit?

There is no thread in the bottom, just maybe 5mm at the end. So you can not just cut it down. However I did change to the I-spec B nut later but I cut it in half and drilled a new hole for the retaining screw. The material in the I-spec A nut was a little soft.

    Amazing, great work.

In my case i have to match Shimano XT ispec A brakes and Shimano XTR 9000 ispec II shifters, do you think it's possible? If i understand correctly you believe that in my case i just have to use the supplied bolts and nuts that came with the hope lever clamp? I'm willing to give it a go .

I had this brakes mounted with ispec B XT shifters so i know they are compatible with ispec B in any case

I'm in a similar situation: XT 8000 right shifter with indicator (SL-M8000) + Zee brake lever (BL-M640-B). Now, I figured out I would have to remove the indicator and the top cover entirely. I found an I-spec II cover unit available (Y03K98110) for $28. This would give me an I-spec II shifter and I-spec-B brake lever. Two questions:

    1. Would it work along with the Hope adapter? I know it sounds silly but I'm immensely confused by all these standards.

    2. Is this a fair price?

Looks like the Ispec B shifters are starting to become in stock! Shimano XT SL-M8000-B I-Spec B shift lever right 11 speed (without optical gear display )

I think it will be easier with the I-Spec A brakes. Atleast in theory. But there is no guarantee. Only way of knowing for sure is to test.

If the shifter is converted to I-spec II and your brake is I-spec B then the situation would be exactly as mine. But if you have an indicator, don't you also have the barclamp version? Seems easier to just fit it as it is then even though it is cleaner with shifter mounted to brake. About the price, only you can decide if it is fair for you

Is there any way to do this if you have I-Spec II brakes and I-Spec B shifter?

I have the older I-Spec-A Version of the XT 785 Brakes (pre 2014) and the Hope HBSP327R shifter mount for Hope brakes works just perfect! No modifications needed to attach the shifter mount to the brake, no other screws needed, too. Thank you for that great idea!

i'm pretty sure my solution is listed somewhere above, but it's all very confusing. I have the 2017 Ispec-II M8000 shifter and the 2016 Ispec-B M506 brake levers and they're not compatible. Is there either A) an after market adapter or B) a direct-to-handlebar mount for the shifter?

    1) An aftermarket solution is what this thread shows

    2) The M8000 shifters come in 3 versions, a bar clamp version, a I-Spec II version and a I-Spec B version.

    3) You can change parts on your I-Spec II shifter to make it a bar clamp mount.

Just did this, got the hope adapter. Drilled it out so it would fit over the I-spec B bolt receptacle, then used a spacer on the other end and a brake-rotor bolt and it all fits together nicely.

Shimano says the main body is not interchangeable, so, I think is not so simple only changing the caps, like you propose.

For those of you looking to mount a XTR shifter (I-Spec 2) to a Saint brake (I-Spec B) problem solvers has a ready made solution. https://problemsolversbike.com/produ...match_adapters
You want the rematch 1.2 left side which is part # BR7003. Price from my LBS before any discounts was $25.
