Will a Shimano 9 speed 12-36 cassette work with SRAM short cage rear derailleur?

Its time for a new cassette and chain for my 1x9. I currently have a 11-34 SRAM cassette paired with my short cage SRAM X9 derailleur. I was thinking of getting a Shimano 12-36 cassette for more low end but am not sure if it will fit with my SRAM short cage derailleur. Anyone know if this cassette will fit without rubbing the derailleur?

Yes. May just need to adjust the B-tension screw.

maybe this link will help you - you will be looking for capacity

    http://forums.mtbr.com/drivetrain-sh...ty-505320.html

    per link above:
    3x9: long cage
    2x9: medium cage
    1x9: short cage

Your derailleur won't necessarily explode if you use a short cage with 2x9 either. The cage size isn't dependant upon the front chainring size, but the amount of difference between more than one chainring.

I use a short cage with a 1x10 using a 11-36 and a 32t ring..came that way from Specializes..pretty sure they did their homework. It will work fine.

Thanks Guys, I'm going up to 12-36 from 11-34 on the Cassette and down on my chain ring to 30T NW from 32T. The 40T may come later but I've been riding 1x9 for 5+ years and my knees need a lower bail out gear.
