Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! What is this ticking?

For the last couple days now whenever I pedal there is a ticking noise coming from the crank it seems, does anyone know what this is and how I could stop it? Also I would like to know how to take it off because I would like to clean it.

    Thanks in advance, Greg

    I had same problem

I tighted my chainring bolts and it went away. Also try removing cranks and retighting the bottom bracket, that should fix it 98% of the time.

loose crank bolt, loose bottom bracket, loose chainring bolt, loose pedal, bad pedal bearing, bad bottom bracket bearing, cracked bottom bracket shell, ect.... the list is pretty much infinite.

<a href="http://www.parktool.com/repair_help/tool.shtml">Parktools</a> has is pretty good site for repair instructions.

If you don't have many tools, and you want to save a buck, Pricepoint has a cheapo $40 toolkit that has pretty much everything you need in it. It's not high quality, but it's enough to get you started.

The kit has a universal crank puller, a crank bolt wrench, etc... It does NOT have a ring nut wrench.
