Question about rear derailleur for 1X11

Will a Shimano XT M786 long cage 10 speed derailleur work with the new XT 11 speed cassette and a 32T front ring? I haven't tried it but with the range meant to handle 3X10 I'm hoping it works.

My current setup is 1x10 with XT M786 RD and a 42T cog. To make the RD work with the 42 plate, I installed a RADr cage from OneUp.
Without it, there isn't enough chain around the 11t cog and the B screw has to be all the way in to clear the 42.
It's possible the RD will work on 11s since the indexing comes from the shifter, but the new M8000 has a different positionning for the pulley wheels to make it work.
    Dyslexics of the world! Untie!

Other way around, get an 11 spd m8000 der to work with your 10 spd setup if you're trying to get extn'd cog/cassette setup.
Wait whuuut, who did he tell you that!?!?....

A Wolftooth Goatlink is a cheaper alternative to the Rad cage.
I got some bad ideas in my head.

Unless I'm missing something(and there's some missing info we could use...) the point the OP is trying to use a 10 spd derailleur on an 11 speed 40t cassette. Not sure if they also have an 11 spd shifter?? either way can't see that functioning.

I have a XT 10 speed derailleur, RADR cage, 11 speed XT cassette, and XT 11 speed shifter that all work together wonderfully. I believe the Goatlink accomplishes the same thing as the RADR but is cheaper.

Wow that's cool so you CAN mix-match the 10&11 Shimano stuff. So the ders follow the shifter since pull ratios of shifters are same. Any reason you didn't just get the 11 spd derailleur? Just curious.

I recently went from 10 to 11 speed and there was no reason to buy a new derailleur as well.

When adding the XT cassette do you also need to purchase the XT 11 speed chain?
