    KMC chain with XT/RD drivetrain?

Brand new hardtail build in progress. XT derailleur, shifter and 46 tooth cassette. Raceface Turbine crank with the new Raceface oval ring.

Ideally I would like to run a KMC X12 Ti-Black gold chain to match the bling of my Factory fork and Factory dropper. However, I have heard from some that this may compromise the drivetrain's smoothness compared to running a non-bling Shimano chain.

Any experience/comments one way or the other?

    Thanks.

I've been running KMC chains with Shimano drivetrains for years and it feels great to me.

I think that claims that mixing a chain with a diff brand of cassette degrades shifting performance are overblown.

I used a KMC chain on a shimano drivetrain with a sunrace cassette. Wore that one out, so now I've got a SRAM chain on the same drivetrain. Shifts great either way.

My own nonscientific and anecdotal evidence does suggest that shimano chains (at least 11spd and down) are not as good for wide range 1x systems because they're likely to suffer more of the "backpedal chain drop" problem in the biggest cog.

I run just about any chain/cassette/derailleur combo you can imagine - including a patchwork of a few leftover pieces of different branded chains held by equally varied assortment of quick links.

If there is a difference between them, it is imperceptible. Once the initial break-in settles they all shift the same.

If you run a non-Shimano chain you'll crash for sure. I know this because I do it and crashed earlier this year. Shifting is great though.
