I like climbing clipped in, and descending on platforms.

Currently using Time X Roc S with Shimano AM45 shoes, but the clip makes the pedal a bit slippery if trying to ride unclipped as a platform.

    Any other options?

I can't say enough about the mallets. I pair them with a pair of mountain shoes that have rubber tread lugs for maximum traction when unclipped.

I feel much more confident descending clipped in.

There's certain turns where remaining clipped in means you have to slow down. Having a foot down to pivot off of while pushing a bike through a high speed tight off camber turn allows you to keep a bit more speed.

Unless you're Sam Hill, you'll probably negotiate that corner much better with both feet on the pedals, but that's not what you're asking so feel free to just disregard.

How do you like the am45 shoes?
