Crashed, now my downshift lever doesn't feel right.

I had a good spill yesterday and my brake/X7 shifter rotated on my bars a bit. After I got them back in place, I noticed I could now shift to a smaller cog in the rear. The that lever wouldn't do anything. After looking everything over and wiggling things, it finally started shifting down. But the lever doesn't feel as stiff and it takes a longer stroke to shift it. I'm still not too familiar with this part of the mechanics, so I'm trying to figure out what's causing it and what I can do to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Perhaps a bit of cable stretch caused by the shifter rotating on your bars? Try adjusting the shifter cable tension using the barrel adjuster. If your rear derailleur cable has a barrel adjuster, you can try that too.

Also check your derailleur hanger alignment.

the little wheel inside that pulls the cable is plastic,.. the head of the cable could have gotten pulled/jammed into it to far and it can crack or swell up the plastic and the wheel will drag and catch on the case of the unit. You can try pulling it apart and checking. If it's cracked.. get new shifter.. if just swollen you can try just filing it down.

Honestly, I'd start looking for sales/deals and just buy a new set.
Going to try and bring Trail Tire TV back. go take a look... http://trailtiretv.blogspot.com/
