9 Speed MTB Shifters + Cassette, 10 Speed Road Rear Deraileur....??
    Hi guys.

As the title says, will a 10speed road RD (SRAM Rival) work with 9speed cassette and shifters ( sram X9/pg980) ?? Has anyone had experience with this?

I know lots of similar questions have been posted, but I couldnt find a definitive answer for the road deraileur.

In case you're wondering why, I've gone 1x9 coming from 3x9, so have a long cage X9 which I can swap with a Road Rival Deraileur lying around (has 28t capacity, I only need 23 if anyone asks!) as long as it works!

    Cheers

A 10 speed SRAM road derailleur WILL NOT work with 9 speed SRAM shifters and cassette.

A 10 speed Shimano road derailleur WILL work with 9 speed Shimano shifters and cassette.

Emphasizing "road" in 10-sp Shimano ROAD rear derailleur.

Cheers! It'd be much simpler if they kept the leverage ratio's the same wouldn't it!

So does anyone know what the exact ratio Shimano uses on their Dyna Sys stuff? Is it truly 1:1? I am considering using a 10-speed Shimano rear derailluer with a SRAM 9-speed 1:1 shifter.

No. And SRAM's "1:1" ratio is not exactly 1:1 either.
